Waste of money pool items

The term Knots" came from boats that would drop a rope in the water tied to a small log or something, they could watch the rope run out and it was marked by a knot every so far, they would then count the knots to determine the ship's speed. I found a super heavy duty wind up clock that makes a contact at time intervals, it would be hooked to some sort of sensor, to measure speed.

How about marking your table with chalk like you use on a blackboard if you want distances. i sometimes think I might learn a bit by placing mirrors against rails and using one of those laser pens to show reflection, not something you'd do in play bit maybe just to recognize patterns better? how do I hit from here to do 3 banks side, for example. buying a tape measure doens't sound like an issue. I dont believe in Ghosts.

Laser pens are banned.
Try conical lighting, there is more noise to work through. Its tough to isolate ghosts, there should be a ghostsink.

how would someone ground a signal in a water bubble?

I bought the pro pocket reducers over 10 yrs ago. I used them to play Golf on a 9’table with my buddies. They do
serve as a demanding practice tool but you really can’t play normal pool using them. The darn clips get in the way.
But they do serve a purpose practicing difficult shots by making them tougher, if not frustratingly so much you start
thinking the shot can’t be made but of course it can. Long straight in shots have such a narrow an opening the margin
for error in accuracy is crazy tight but then remove the pocket reducers and it seems like how did I ever miss before?
Pocket reducers have a purpose but it’s essentially for practicing specific shots instead of making pool harder to play.
I bought Bar-co Reliners in the mid-1990s. They are leather liners and they reduce my corner pockets from 4 3/8 to 3 3/4. They are fine for practice because I have to execute the shot perfectly to make the ball. However, because they are leather, they do not play correctly. So I never use them when playing.

What pool related item do you feel was a waste of money? Whether it is an expensive cue, training item, or other nicknack, what item do you feel you wasted your money on ? I ill start by saying the Buddy Hall cue guide is something I never use. Maybe you love yours, but I never use mine.

The newer smooth chalks. Bought a Taom, miscued like crazy every stroke shot, went back to Masters, back to normal. Seems the #1 reason people buy it is because it's "clean". That's like buying a car because it's "shiny".

This is the dumbest device ever. I mean... maybe for a ripe beginner or a kid but geesh...

Can you go one or two tips left or right of the center for spin?

Sorry to be the one to tell you this, but it's you.
I've been using V10 chalk for 10 months and have noticed no difference in frequency of miscues.
My table is a heck of a lot cleaner though.

To me it's too busy looking with too much information drawn on the ball, it needs to be more appealing to the eye then what it is. I attached a photo of what I would recommend. I have one of Aramith in red dot and black dot:
I actually like it but the measel ball is a little heavier/bigger and does affect play. One of he two characteristics I forget.

I have a 13mm shaft for heavy cue balls and 12.5 for lighter ones. Small shafts lose power against these balls.

Did you spend your money on this or are you playing on Google and just looking for things to add to the thread?

This is a good tool for anybody. It makes obvious a bunch of alignment and perspective traits of your stroke. I have one myself. Don’t knock Joe Tucker, he is a good player and coach.

coincidence?

Tao chalk = clean chalk
Two of my measles balls in the pic below. One on the left has about a year of daily play with Masters chalk. One on the right has about four months of daily play with Taom V10 chalk. Same cleaning routines (automatic ball cleaner machine, Aramith cleaner/polisher).

I never see chalk marks on the new CB since switching to Taom V10. I also don’t see chalk on my hands, shaft, or table surface. I also don’t stress over whether my tip has enough chalk on it between each shot, since I know it sticks there like glue.

Is it worth the money? I’d pay triple what it costs for those benefits.

Bite me Digi-boy. :cautious:

I purchased it and as I said, if you had reading comprehension, it might work for a ripe beginner or a kid. Other than that it's a waste of money. You can tell Joe I said so myself. Saying a product is dumb isn't "knocking" anyone. I don't know the guy but I do know the device was a complete waste of money.

It's pretty sad when one snake oil salesman has to white knight for another one, then uses an appeal to authority. I don't care who the guy is, he sold a dumb product. Now put on your readers fella: "It's dumb and all but useless except for ripe beginners and kids."

Mine's in my case. Trying to find a barcue that it will fit is a pia. The issue is the grommet, just a tad too much pressure and it pops out. pos.
There are a few different brands, some have a tighter grommet. I got a 10 pack for $12 or so and they seem to fit good on 12.25-13mm. You might get away with putting a drop of CA on the grommet where it goes into the plastic.

I have a bridge that I bought that inserts on various pool sticks. I don't hold it by the edges when I put it over a cue tip, I support the grommet as I push it on the cue stick without a problem.

I purchased this sometime back based on a friend having one, but the new ones that are manufactured have a very course intermittent grain on them that makes them pretty much unusable. Instead of scuffing, it tears at the tip. It really is unusable, and a waste of money, because it damages the tip instead of scuffing it because the burrs are so large and coarse.

I don’t know about paying triple or putting that much faith in a chalk. These chalks affect a player’s mindset.

I purposely throw their chalk in the pocket and make them look for it. You should see how it affects their play.
