Joy (Joi) China tables 2023

He's played before:

Sheesh.
It's certainly been observed before, if only Earl could bring his good humored self everytime, he could be a respected & welcome ambassador for the sport and international relations. Regardless how he performed in individual matches.
So many missed opportunities over the years.

Earl's intent was always to WIN, matches and money. Don't think being an 'ambassador' or improving int'l. relations has ever been on his radar screen. Its not like things have changed except his skill level.

Oh, I'm aware of that.
But Earl also always had a side to him of the "spiritual" or "rigorousness" of pool. He has blathered about the "beauty" of the game. Or a "Beautiful game played by ugly people"
He gets into a mode when the other guy has better luck than him; or especially when Earl is losing, that the other guy is not worthy to be playing on the same table. Maybe, over a lifetime of amazing shots & pressure play to salvage games and matches, but it just causes him (Earl) to lay down and stop working instead of focusing and bringing the game back to himself.
The conflict between those 2 sides causes him to lose more often than "he should" on paper.

I think he could have actually won more had he developed his more personable side. You know, when you don't care. when a momentary loss is just a minor setback, not something that undermines your self concept. There was a period a few years ago when he was demonstrating his better side steadily. Had hoped it was a new permanent evolution.

Everyone wants to beat a jerk, and they tend not to take risks while doing so. If they underestimate you or overall think you are a nice guy, you end up getting useful breaks. & When the other guy does get all the luck, everyone sees and agrees, instead of mentally saying, "yeah, he would not have had half as much luck if you had actually brought some skill to the table".

It takes all kinds.
We all have our weaknesses.
Earl could have been greater than his legend & I think even more successful with a little less social self centeredness.
In some ways, his great project in life has been making a better self.
He's still a hero of mine, and i only wish him the best of luck.

Earl was 'done' years ago. He hasn't handled dwindling skills well at all. He should have retired from top competition when he could still win. Earl did what Earl did. To say he could have been greater in some way is just guesswork in an attempt to impose what you wanted to see out of him. You could say these things about any sports star, all could have been more 'this-or-that' but then they might have not been great. Have to take all great players at face value, warts-n-all.

Zeng Yubo, Ma Zhiyu, WangYan, WangPeng are very well known in SE Asia along with other spots around the globe such as in Africa. Ding Junhi is a world class snooker player who is in the C8B tournaments. Alex Pagulayan and the Magican himself can be added to the C8B list of particapants. With 1.4 billion people in China the perspective talent pool of world class billiard players is very deep. There were 9K people in the stands for the C8B finals with millions of viewers watching on live TV in China. The biggest billiard tournament here in the states is lucky to get more then 100 people in the live audience to watch the finals. The SD Kid did sign to play C8B back in 2016 but appartently that deal fell thru. If Ronnie OS is leaving his matchroom snooker contract behind to earn more money in China, what does his moving over to play C8B signal to the rest of the pro billiard players out there?

Seems the people that actually have a chance of winning 740,000.00 don't mind playing on a gaff table to have a shot at the money. The C8B table will be too differcult for a lot of people to play on, such as the hack golfer can't break a 100 on a real US Open golf course.

I gotta agree with Rexus, C8B tables just seem like a gaffed table. I don't enjoy watching C8B matches either, I tried but it wouldn't stick. Good luck getting the pool playing American public to accept C8B tables too, I doubt that they would appreciate wholesale changes to the table they are familiar with and if you don't have any public interest you wont have professional interest.

Damn near impossible to get JoeBallbanger to play on a 9ft with buckets. A Ch8b table in your average US room would get little-to-zero use. This game has a huge Asian/Chinese following That's great. Lets leave it there.
