I just passed my first year playing pool after 10 years of not playing, my first cue purchased was a McDermott, I swore there was no way I was going to one of those stupid Carbon Fiber cues, shouldn't have said that because now not only do I own a CF shaft but a CF cue made by Becue.
"Back in the day" I was using Tiger tips, Sniper to be exact but my new cue came with Becue's Core tip, I didn't like it, it was too soft for me, so I went to order a new Sniper tip and found that they had a new tip called the Black Onyx that sounded good so on the cue it went, played a little firmer than the Sniper but a really good tip, this tip was on a 12.3mm shaft, I had an 11.8mm shaft that I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with so I never used it.
8 months into my return to pool I joined a pool league where we would be playing 8 ball on BarBox tables, I thought that 11.8mm shaft might work better on the smaller table, WRONG!!! but I also discovered believe it or not that I was the problem, I was not hitting the cue ball precisely enough, once I worked that out my 11.8mm shaft I became instantly better, well almost instantly, since I didn't like the Becue Core tips it was time to change that tip.
Dan Dishaw puts on my cue tips on for me, if you have never heard of him before Google him , he is a world class cue maker, He suggested a Kamui Athlete tip, read up on them and they were supposed to be particularly good for CF shafts, so I gave them a try, been using them ever since, so now I order another 11.8mm shaft from Becue for a spare, I tried to have them install the Kamui tip on it but it would have taken longer to get the shaft so I went with another Core tip from Becue, this time I went for their "hard" tip, I would replace it with the Toam Fusion tip I wanted to try anyways.
I receive my new shaft, I've got to try it out, right? I use my Willard dime shaper, chalk up the tip and hit a few balls, WOW, I was not expecting that, this tip felt great!!! Let's put it to the test, lets try some power draw, WOW again!!!! I already ordered the Toam tip but I thinking to myself I don't know why I would want to change this tip, I played for a couple of hours and loved this tip, I know Becue classifies this tip as a hard tip but it felt about as hard as the Kamui Athlete tip MAYBE a touch harder, I would call it a medium hard, I'm going to play this tip for a while and see how it goes, pleasantly surprised.
