Pressed Ultra Skin S

Have you ever pressed a soft layered tip? I put an ultraskin soft into one of those manual threaded presses a while ago for no particular reason and have recently found myself wanting a stiffer tip than the tiger sniper on my cynergy. I was planning on an ultra skin hard until I found this.
I don't own a durometer but the tip height is .2710 whereas a fresh one just measured .3050

I'll let you know how it plays

Be careful you don’t delaminate a layer or two. Me, I’d just buy a harder tip to start with.
I have plenty so it doesn't hurt to try it out. It went on fine, plays pretty hard but I like it so far. Made me wonder what it would be like if I pressed the HH tip for a break cue.

Just use the ultrasound med. I put them on every cue I build. Never had a complaint.

I pressed a Ultraskin black Med just for giggles to see what I come up with. Stock height .284, pressed .278.
I used a vicegrip type of clamp with swivel feet that gave an even pressure.
I put a lot of pressure on it by using a pair of big channel locs to squeese the grips shut. Left it squeezed for about a day and a half. The tips are 2-3 years old and I have noticed that when installing a couple of them recently, they seem to play slightly harder than when I first got them. That could be my imagination though.
Anyway, for me there was such a small change that it isnt worth the time and effort to press these.

Update: The soft tip that I pressed played fairly hard, it's been a while since I've used an ultra skin hard but I think it played/sounded about the same as that. Quite a bit harder than the softs.

Ultimately, not an overly interesting experiment but yes the output was significantly different than the input. I've changed it to a Tiger Everest, big fan.
