Golden Fleece rumor

Yep looks like the big tables are going the way of the billiard and snooker tables I used to see in our local room
There's a Mexican joint in Tulsa that has 3c tables. About the only places that have those are Asian or Latino. No snooker anymore, used to be 4-5 tables in every 'hall. The one in Magoo's is set-up strictly for golf with pool balls.

Thank you that sounds like heaven on earth to me , I'm a bit brain dead on something's and enjoy the challenge of a table like what a t you have mentioned !

Hopefully they have good AC it's nearly 90 here our first day of warm weather and I'm hating it ha ha
I've got a longtime friend who lives in Ok a road trip should be in order !

APA, BCA, TAP and Valley are all using BB Tables and thats growing the sport because anybody can play on them and feel pretty good about their game and every bar, night club and many hotels have them, lots of opportunities to play. There are no 9' table leagues and few 9' table tournaments for armatures so I dont see a path for a resurgence of the big tables nor a good reason for it?
The chicken or the egg?

Them changing would help, is all I am saying.

yeah, good a\c with fans. on super hot days it gets a tad warm but not bad. there's always somebody to hit balls with during the day, what i call 'OFH' old fart hours. ;) Just hit 64 so i'm in that group too.

They already have a lot invested in 7fts is my main point. They're not going to buy 9fts that rarely get used. Maybe at nationals they could set up a few and have a no-entry event. Leagues are so bought-in on 7fts getting them to change anything will be near impossible. They tried a 9ft league here in Tulsa more than once and it was not pretty. Very few signed up and there was no where to go after season was over, no nationals so people lost interest fast.

Actually the action was at Jim's other joint, The Billiard Palace. 24hr non-stop gamble-thon. It started at the original Palace at 12th&Harvard and they expanded to the big Palace at 21st&Memorial. From about '87 to '07 it was one of THE top action places in the country. Magoo's was/is more of a sports-bar with tables. since the Palace closed its the action spot but not much action at all these days.

I'm no BB Box guy either, I just realize that I'm running out of options!

Don't feel to bad I also just turned 64 not to long ago and I've decided to start a work out regiment before things really go to hell in a hand basket ha ha
A major part of that is to set goals for myself like some day making it to Magoo's to play quite a few racks of pool!

328 people are playing in the 9ball tournament in Olathe this weekend (on Shooters barboxes). It’s hard to argue with those numbers.
Even harder to argue with these numbers. I believe this happened on bar boxes at Iron City Billiards in Birmingham, Alabama.

They do it every 1-3 months. Strange how the poorest parts of the country seem to come up with the most money for these things.
There's always been great action in the South. A lot of people have $$ regardless of what the loony press tells ya. These big Fargo events are popping up all over. OkCity did one and in Vegas they do them pretty often but this one at IronCity is the big daddy.

This is not a fargo event.

Recreational players will always jump on what makes them feel the best about themselves. That said, there are no BB sized tables in my neck of the woods, other than true to form Valley Barboxes that are in bars, or filling tiny spaces in pool rooms. Those tables get spill over when the 9fts are full.

At one point, one room (now closed) had a Diamond BB. We used it to keep our cases on while playing on the 9fts.

BB is not a thing, North of Toronto. Now you'll find a few rooms with a healthy amount of Diamond BBs in the GTA. Those rooms do host tourneys for those tables, but the defacto standard for competitive play is 9ft.

Not entirely sure what would happen if another room opened up with all BB.... The only room has been enjoying zero competition for nearly decades so they get away with some lousy up keep.

he will take it and invest it wisely along with 10% of his gross income and one day he will get to retire early as a very wealthy man and not a railbird in a pool room.

in york pa unless your a member of a private club you have no access to 9 foot tables. You have to driver over to Lancaster or north to Harrisburg or head to Maryland.
Honestly I think it’s why I like diamond 7 foot tables. a sloppy valley bar box stroke doesn’t work on a diamond . I do still keep a compact small table stroke but I do find you have to have that good follow through and smooth stroke to make balls or diamonds are happy to spit them back out at you lol
