2024 China Open - where are the elite Chinese pros?

Where are the YTubes? Only a smattering of matches. Some with bad viewing angles.
Mostly streams are from Philippine, Vietnamese or Taiwanese players. They are usually not live, slightly behind real time. They are using another software to stream from a Chinese APP - you'll notice the small orange Icon in the corner of the ones streamed from above (I was blocked by a phillipine channel for mentioning that in the live chat lol)
Some players are permitted to stream if they have sought organizer permission, and have the approval of their opponent.
All games are on Douyin, or other Chinese Platform. Some are on Chinese TV.
I think that much like the Yuan8 open, games will be added to Youtube later.
I am pretty sure the finals will be made more widely available.

was it filler vs wu last year? or lil ko? either way it was livestreamed.

china open has always had brutal fields but not the best tv production. for many years the main angle on the table was to steep, i.e. lower than MR, accustat, etc. i still watched it as much of the other pool was quite crappy PPV back then. wu vs raga was probably the best final. a couple of years earlier wu totally dominated kevin cheng in the final.

Looks like Filler defeated Raga in the final last year, with Kun Lin Wu tied for third: https://www.azbilliards.com/tournament/222362-2023-china-open/?action=results

And Raga was second to Jia-Qing Wu in 2019: https://www.azbilliards.com/tournament/8967-2019-china-open-mens-division/?action=results

lol I was just typing that.

And with this talk of the exciting 2019 hill-hill final between Wu and Raga, don't forget the match that GOT Wu to the final that year. After being down by 4 games mid match, SVB clawed his way back to 10-10 and was shooting in the final game. Shane attempted and missed a risky rail-first shot and the Wu got out.

Another interesting thing from that year was the brutal single elimination stage 1 qualifiers. Raga came in through the qualifiers, for example. And so did Kun Lin Wu (Others in the qualifiers were Alcaide, Kevin Cheng, Quoc Hoang Duong, Ignacio, Yu Lung Chang, Roland Garcia, Jianbo Fu, DeLuna, Ruslan, Hohmann and on and on).

Jerico Banares (now 811) had his rating go up 8 points to 802 from his stellar play in that China Open. Problem is that didn't get him to stage 2! He failed to get out of the qualifiers.

So this China Open is going on the exact same time as the Heyball World Championship? That seems a little odd.

I agree watched him play Dennis Orcollo it was embarrassing he's there to make a fashion statement with that pig tail on his head
He was wearing a chinese-8 jersey, so I'm guessing he was there playing Chinese-8 ball, and saved them applying for another persons visa... and I am assuming that he played in a Chinese-8 ball tourney for the reason he was probably already in China, as I can't see him being up to that standard either.

Not the exact same dates, but similar dates. It's not odd, it's all part of the new political landscape of pool... mY gAmE iS bEtTeR aNd MuCh HaRdEr ThAn YoUrS" - "WeLl My DaDs a NiNjA" bala bala balaaa 🥱

He is an instructor/house pro at Amsterdam Billiards. He may benefit enough from the image boost to fund the travel. And as you said, why not?
Not with that performance lol
He's not the only player that got a grumble for being gifted stage 2 tbh
Like I said, I think he was already in China attempting Chinese-8 Tourney. They give out visa letters and hotel rooms like hot cakes to try and get players in to compete.

So the final 32 is set now, with matches starting tomorrow afternoon (there). Orcollo didn't make it, losing to Shi Wenhai of China 9-4 after missing that hill/hill 9-ball against Filler.

My friend was 3-0 down Vs Biado before he even put his cue together earlier... I watched them play till 5-2 to Biado, and went to get some dinner downstairs in the mall... Watched my friend win it whilst stuffing my face full of Char Siu! If My friend beat Biado, and I have beat my friend, can I count that as a victory for both of us? 🤣 (jokes jokes, my friend is 1000x the player I am, and I'd never play him for money)
