Wouldn't it be nice...

To play on a freshly laid cloth everyday... All recoated for the upcoming tournament. 20 x 4" Rasson tables. Played on two of them yesterday, and had the speed dialed from ball one. A very nice evening. They'll leave the 4.25" tables unchanged. Talking to the owner, he said he will do the 4" tables every 6 months pre-tournament, and the 4.25" once a year.

Just an appreciation post for perfect equipment.

I washed old Simonis and it got all felty. Still stunk though. Owner said it might work on a card table.
I had no problem washing my recycled cloth from the Sun City West pool room. Pretty sure I did it in the bath tub. Didn't scrub it just wanted to rinse out as much chalk as possible. Washy wash rinse rinse...smells like roses. No smoking in the sun city recroom. 🤷‍♂️ Think I dried it on the line and it came out fine. Cloth from a 9 footer going on my 8 footer got it inside any wear down the rails or at the pocket mouth. A serious bargain at Free.

Do they recycle the old cloth? I find lots of home use is available in cloth removed on that sort of schedule.
I am not sure. I can't imagine it goes to waste here. It is most likely sold on. I have kept a foot square of it the last three times they changed cloth (for memories/might make something using it at some point or another - powder blue, tournament blue, green from the Chinese 8 table and grey so far - can't imagine them changing from grey for the foreseeable future)

I threw mine in the wash and dryer. Shrunk too I recall.

What does this mean?
Nice didn't grab my senses. Nuthin poisonal. Merry Storemas and all...

A room full of 4" holes would be like a candy store. I'd be there begging for a job so I can prepare for 3.75.

Kind of funny at Sun City West. I watched em remove the cloth and deposit it in the trash can but had to get permission from management to remove it from the receptacle. 🤔 probably lots of things the cloth could be used for. If I had more I would consider looking for community rec rooms and check if they had tables and the condition of the cloth. In my travels I have seen some recroom tables that were in distress. Pretty sure I am behind in my community service. Don't tell the judge. 😉

I did sneak a piece that came off a rail. Cut it into 3 inch circles and left them on the rails of the newly covered tables as break pads. One table that the local retired pro liked to practice his break on showed his favorite break spot and even the path to the rack very quickly. Could also preserve the cloth when practicing jump shots. Some used them while a couple scoffed and continued autographing the tables showing off their crushing break. Oh well. Heck even the gals with 5 mph breaks diligently used the break pads. It's the thought that counts. 🤷‍♂️ 😉

I saved the Simonis Green cloth off my table when I got it recovered just because I couldn't stand the thought of throwing away such nice cloth. Fast forward five or six years, my wife helped me make Christmas stockings out of it. (I think I posted a pic in an old thread on here somewhere.) I used the play side on the inside of the stockings because it had discolored from chalk. But the bottom still looked brand new. They turned out great and I still have a pretty decent amount of that cloth left for some other project down the road. I'm thinking it would be great to line machinist chest or jewelry box drawers.

I'm sure most of you already know this, but if someone reading this hasn't handled Simonis cloth off of the table, that stuff is HEAVY. Seriously. Before I ever felt a full pack for a nine footer I always just kind of had it in my head that it would feel like holding a set of bed sheets. Wrong. It's more like holding quilt.

I clean old cloth and use it to cover work benches and shelves in the barn and garage. It really brightens up the room. Of course this is not a weld shop...just common repairs around the farm and house.
