On Friday, 1/17/25, i was discussing a cue purchase with Jack Lee at the Derby City Classic when Scott Ledford approached. Apparently he has known Jack for years. Jack is a reputable cue seller so I figured Scott must be an okay guy. Boy was I wrong!!! Ledford showed me a 2002 Mottey. It was gorgeous and the shafts looked unplayed. I agreed to buy it only because I thought it was all original and told Ledford the same. Yesterday texted photos of my new Mottey to a known buyer of Mottey cues. He informed me that Jamie Wernsman had Randy Mobley refinish the cue and make two new shafts for the cue using the original Mottey shaft collars. Today Jamie Wernsman confirmed what I was told. When I told Scott Ledford he sold me a Mottey without disclosing the fact that the cue had been refinished and the shafts were not original to the cue and I wanted a full refund, he refused, claiming he knew nothing about the Mottey not being an original condition cue. He refused me a full refund even though he had my money for less than 27 hours. I then said a price adjustment was in order and he again refused. Scott Ledford cannot be trusted. Stay clear of this guy and don't buy a cue from him or you might wind up in my shoes. Please spread the word.

FYI, Mike Garland is a stand up guy who I would trust with my wallet.

Unfortunately, his got picked by a seller that cannot be trusted and if
you’re inclined to defend the seller, then you might do the same thing.

I believe it was a face to face meeting, and I also believe that Mike had enough time to inspect and do his diligence research on a cue. If you’re buying an item at a flea market, I don’t think you go cry about the item isn’t real correct? Giving the fact that this cue is a 2002, how can it stayed at mint condition w.o refinish or worked on. I’m sure Mike isn't new to the game, why ruin the reputation that he has by posting something like this to the seller. I can name you few or many other occasions people selling saying that cue is mint or no issues but in fact the cue has a noticeable SW wobbled rolled.
I can named a seller that does that to my friend but what does that gonna do? My friend like the cue, he bought it and now just gonna keep and play with it. I’m just saying, we all sold cues that didn’t know or didn’t cleared about the condition of the cues once or more. Mike bought it in a face to face meeting with a guy. He liked it, he tested it then paid for it. I don’t see the other guy have any fault at all. Let me give you an example, if this was a balabushka cue, and Mike found out it’s 50,000 cue and the guy wanted it back for the same price that he sold for. Will Mike give back the cue for same price???

You bought it, you found out it’s not what ever the price you can make $$$ on. He can Keep it as a lesson learned. Mike as a lawyer, this shouldn’t be new to him, as specially he is in this cue game for long time.

That’s my two cents.

Sometime the truth hurts, I buy and sell cues with heart and being honest. I always stay true to myself, you as a lawyer, I believe you should know that. To be honest, if this is the way you buy and sell cues, I would never want to deal with you at all.

In buy n sell, it’s ok to taken a lost once in awhile, if you’re expecting to win each and every time. I don’t know where have you been for the past 30 yrs.

Here’s the post from Scott, if anyone need for member approval let me know.

Wait, are you all really defending this? Based on the text messages, it's pretty clear the shafts were disclosed as not original in RECENT transactions. To claim the shafts as original and is poor due diligence at best and scammy at worst and a refund is absolutely due. It doesn't matter if the shafts were made by George Balabushka himself, the buyer didn't get what he was supposed to be sold.

How would you feel if someone sold you a cue with an ivory joint only for it to turn out to be efloryn? Would you really accept an explanation of "we all sold cues that didn’t know or didn’t cleared about the condition" or "In buy n sell, it’s ok to taken a lost once in awhile"?

Anyway, I guess I know who not to buy cues from in the future.

Like I previously posted, write down the handles of anyone defending what happened to Mike as being his own fault or that the seller didn’t do anything wrong. If they think what happened is not wrong or that Mike is not entitled to a partial or full refund, these are very likely not Azers you’d ever want to buy a pool cue from. This is really indefensible. If what happened to Mike seems alright to them, just beware because they might do the equivalent to you on some transaction.

False testimony is false testimony even if you didn’t know it at the time. This is not a Paul Mottey cue. It is a Mottey pool cue butt with Randy Mobley matching shafts. There is a difference and it has a very big distinction. Mike did not receive what he was led to believe is a Paul Mottey cue. The seller had an obligation to reveal this and if he didn’t know, that isn’t Scott’s fault. Just reverse the transaction, refund Mike’d payment 100%, and negotiate a new price. Don’t defend keeping Mike’s money.
