Looking for info on the Ultraskin tips

I'm not one of those maniacs who constantly changes tips trying to find some kind of magic or whatever. I've used maybe five or six different tips over the course of thirty-ish years of playing. So for what it's worth, the standard old Ultraskin medium (I think they're the black versions now) is the most consistent tip I've ever played with. They hold up great and I've never had any miscue or glazing issues with them like I did with Kamui. And for the price, I don't know how you can beat them.

Couldn't agree more.

garczar I found this is posted on Tom's website that I found from doing a little research.

(A little bit about Tom)

Why Layered Cue Tips?

I was once a Cue Maker with a partner that made Cues under the name R/T Custom cues in the 1990's

Back when I made Cues doing tips was a neccesary evil, very low end money for the time of use on the lathe. I however heard of a new tip called a Morri. I think I was one of the first to pay $400.00 for a Tin of 50 Tips. This however brought the price to install to new heights and putting on a Tip was no longer a neccesary evil, it was profitable.

Coming back to the game of Pool after the many years layoff I noticed the prices of tips had rose to the point the Tip maker was like a 50/50 partner with the tip installer.

My background is chemistry starting from raw material to a finished commercial useable product. My Pool game would be a High B to low A player so I know how it is supposed to feel when you contact the cueball.

This led the path for the UltraSkinLayered Layered Cue Tip. An 10 layered cue tip that I felt hit as well as any tip on the market.

I don't have a Board of Directors needing to make a $100,000.00 a year up so I found I could offer these tips to the Cue Maker and Cue Repair person for a price that they again could make a good dollar doing tip replacement on cues.

At this date feedback has been fantastic. If it stays this way my stumbling blocks will be keeping up supply during the start but will not lower quantity to bring prices up like our petrolium suppliers do with gas, I will simply keep upping the production till it meets a level off mark.

My worlds great right now, I get to be a part and have more time to play in the worlds greatest sport. Rack Um, I got time for one more game.

I may not be the smartest guy on the forum, but where does it say he actually made them? Personally. All it says is, "...so I found I could offer these tips to the Cue Maker and Cue Repair person for a price that they again could make a good dollar doing tip replacement on cues.".

I have sent his sister another email asking if Tom actually made these tips himself or not.
His site says that he would up production to keep up with demands, which of course could either mean asking his supplier to increase production or increase his own production.
I will update when I hear back from her.. probably early next week. ;)

So you are assuming he actually made them.

AFAIK, Tiger Products is the only company making their layered tips here in the USA in Burbank, CA. I've seen the facility first hand. It's quite the process.

Tom NEVER made tips himself, here or anywhere else. They always came from asia. Don't need your 'updates' bud.

Yep, you're right. Snoozed Tiger. They are only co. making them in US.

Looks like we're dealin with another newb with all of a month here. They learn or they go.

Got bored and asked Google who makes U'skin tips. AI replied with these nuggets: they are made in the UK by Elkmaster and have a special 'ultraskin coating to prevent miscues'. WTF?????????????????????

man ..... people are getting tweaked in here ... its a tip ... not judgement on crime

Honest to the devil I always thought Tom made them in his home shop. I got out of cue-repair just as he was starting. If I ever got back into it, I'd use his tips as the baseline, and not offer ANY 1 piece tips. Their exploding upon cutting is not worth it.

No chance anyone is going to be able to produce tips in the USA from the "finest leather from Japan" for $3 each.

I was told by a very very reputable cue maker last week that his sister is in fact running the show and the tips are good as ever.

I spoke to Tom once years and years ago. Great guy, great tips. Very sad he passed.

Word is the tips are still the same quality. I personally haven’t seen the ones since he passed🙏🏼, the cue maker has seen them-all good.

Best I can do on this question

Fatboy 😃
What's the deal with Zans'??
Specifically 'Premium Soft'??
How long does a waiting list have to be b4 the company either ships or makes a bunch??
When a player like Nick Varner has to wait for months on end, perhaps it's time to rethink our choices. I doubt if calling them out on AZ will help, but we might get lucky.
A friend asked me to try to get a dozen for him. Only availability I saw were knock offs.
Anybody have info or care to chime in??
