Vegas Mixed Dubs

I hope I'm not alone in this, but I absolutely love mixed dubs. It's fun to watch and it looks like the pros are having a good time too (also one of my favorite ways to play friendlies).

Just finished the Chou/Chang v. Zlateva/Gomez match and it was a clinic in playing doubles. The game score really didn't reflect the quality of play, just that Chou/Chang run balls like crazy together.

I'd really love to see this event at all the majors and I'm looking forward to the next set of matches. Hopefully more on stream.

Was there for part of it. We were joking with Chou never missing a ball but her partner never gave her anything but a 2.5 foot stop shot. That guy as your partner adds at least 100 to your Fargo. 😜

Usually doubles are brutal to watch. Way too much unnecessary talking (see the Mosconi cluster) distracting players. Then mixed doubles is even worse because of the usual lack of professionalism by the male player constantly directing the female. Watched some of the Chou/Chang match last night and it was actually good because they had very little talking. Shouldn't be any necessary unless you have some tough shot/safety/push and could use an extra opinion, or you got a righty lefty paring.

Also, much nicer watching that ref in that match than the Mullet Leyman. :p

There was a moment in that match where Chou called an extension while Chang was down on the shot about to shoot. it looked like he wanted to pull the trigger quick and not burn the extension. He was surprised to hear the extension called. He handled it fine but it was sort of funny. I’ll leave the wife jokes to others. 😜

Based on all the dubs matches I've watched its often the guys leaving their partner hooked or with terrible shape. Can't take the pressure of a woman expecting you to do your job? (cough, Albin...)

Alex and Kelly are such a fantastic pairing. They complement each other so well. So much fun to watch and both are obviously having a good time.

Jasmin just can't find a partner that'll pull their weight. Albin for some reason plays terrible in doubles and Denis didn't look good either...

The dudes need to get their shit together in these mixed dubs events.

Aside: how can you not love this alignment? Put it in a freakin textbook.

It is a fun format, and definitely does have a lighter feel.
One of the local bar/clubs in the area has a table that can get busy on weekends. A few locals will play, and it's often a place where people bring their own cue to play as there's good competition there. More often than not, it turns to Scotch Doubles and a lot of women will then join in and play. I like it since it definitely mixes up the games, and a really good player doesn't dominate. The games move quickly, and more people get to participate.

i've only seen denis play scotch in WCOP and he made history as the worst team member ever. so not surprised there

i haven't followed the mixed. chang/chou look set to win i presume?

Yeah, Denis looked worse than Albin and that's saying a lot. Some of these players forget how to control the cue ball as soon as they have a partner...

Yeah, Chou/Chang are really good. Han/Wu is a very strong team as is Fisher/Kazakis.

Finally got to watch the final and I just want more. I could watch Chou/Chang and Fisher/Kazakis brawl all day.
The epitome of mixed dubs: extraordinarily talented players that pair up well. Not just a rating total. Partners that play really well together.
More. I want more. With bigger prizes. Let's see some bizarre partnerships that just....WORK.
