Do they refinish? Didn't see anything about that on their website.Call Pechauer!
Bummer. I appreciate the contrasting experience. Outside of the cost/communication issues, was the work good? I mean sans the shaft clean up.A friend just had an older Meucci done by Proficient Billiards. Was about $450 with a new linnen wrap. Actually they charged her $75 more than the price quoted on their web site. When she questioned it, they said sorry price went up. This was with no cleaning up of the shaft.
I'll never again recommend a place for someone to do busisness with as now she's a little upset with me for my recommendation.
I would hope they do thier own Cues.Do they refinish? Didn't see anything about that on their website.

Totally expect it to be more than a replacement. I’m a cabinetmaker. I understand the costs of doing this kind of work. I just don’t know the best practices specifically for refinishing cues. And yes the stain under the clear is my concern too. Would you strip it to bare wood then restrain and the. Clear? I’ve actually got a wood lathe too (not a cue specific lathe), just don’t think I want to take it on.Hate to say it but the price of everything thing is going up. The cost of my clear finish alone has jumped again.
Welcome to the new world we live in.
Don't worry, it'll get fixed!
As far as the cost of your cue getting refinished. And this is only if it were in my shop, but you could expect to pay more than a normal cue because of it being stained under the clear coat.
Who can duplicate the Stain?Totally expect it to be more than a replacement. I’m a cabinetmaker. I understand the costs of doing this kind of work. I haven't seen it as she had it shipped direct to her daughter that is taking up pool again, but from my understanding it looked great other than the dirty shaft and old tip. It was a gift for her daughter as she has a somewhat of terminal med situation and she wanted her daughter to have a cue she could enjoy for what time she had. It really was a beautiful cue when I first saw it, other than the refinish she had done by another place do about ten yrs back had all cracked up. It wasn't nicked up from use as she hadn't used it, it just cracked on its own.Bummer. I appreciate the contrasting experience. Outside of the cost/communication issues, was the work good? Wow. I can understand her frustration. I am sorry to hear that and I hope her daughter enjoyed the sh1t out of it.I haven't seen it as she had it shipped direct to her daughter that is taking up pool again, but from my understanding it looked great other than the dirty shaft and old tip. So, she brought it to me and said she wanted it fixed so she could give it to her daughter and asked if I knew of anyplace that does that as she was unsure of taking it back to where she had before. Naturally I mentioned Proficient as I had heard nothing but good on here.
Probably not Proficient's fault. If these things aren't totally talked about pre job then even though they may see these things need attention, if it's not on the work order, it's not going to get done.I haven't seen it as she had it shipped direct to her daughter that is taking up pool again, but from my understanding it looked great other than the dirty shaft and old tip. I bought this Pechauer in 1990. Several dings and chips in the finish after 30+ years. Nothing fancy obviously, but it's quite nostalgic at this point. What can I expect to pay to have this refinished?

You're right on that one. I asked if she had asked to have the shaft done and she said no, she just assumed it would be.Probably not Proficient's fault. Now again, in the right place, the individual/company doing the work should bring this to the owners attention and let them decide...IMO.
what's so funny? he refinished my Jensen with leather for 185+shipping. came out perfect. A couple 'big name' guys quoted me around 285-300 with a long wait. Got mine back in a couple weeks.Cody Cash(PK Custom Cues) in Wichita does great work at fair prices. I'm guessing he'd refinish/wrap it for around 200bux. https://www.facebook.com/PKcues

That's extremely cheap, way under the going rate. Mr Webb is right, refinishing stained cues can be tricky. getting the right stain can be a challenge. I'm working on one now, I have tried 5 red dyes to find the right hue..what's so funny? he refinished my Jensen with leather for 185+shipping. came out perfect.
