Is my weak assed answer from the position in the last picture. 🤷‍♂️ practice practice practice.
Ooops the straight back bank reminds me of the one that Cole hit. It (object ball) was approximately at the head string with whitey where it sits in the picture. And had the kiss. So Cole popped whitey into the air to avoid the kiss. Pow Splat.

One ball one pocket was the game used to fleece the wealthy owner of the Down Under in Chico.
I already had the intell on the player the owner was backing.
"If you are not in on it....don't bet." One story included signals from the booking agent as to who wins the next rack. 🤷‍♂️
I like the 3 in a line for a morning challenge playing Left vs Right.....and don't forget to look at whitey when you hit it.

Eric, whatever Artie showed you, cherish it! Myself and maybe The ghost, Joey Gold, George Michaels and Larry Schwartz are the only ones left that saw Artie play on a regular basis in his prime, (1967-1980)! He played All games very well, including 3C for a Pool player. He didn't care for 9 ball, He didn't like the 'Luck Factor'! He was the Best I've ever seen getting out of the Break playing 1 pocket and I've watched Ronnie's game after the Break.

Lou saw Artie play when Pool was the last thing on His mind! and Artie was about 65-70 then.
There's only a few of us that know the Real reason why Artie even came out of retirement to play John, that's an interesting story for another time!

Someone like Artie -- who calculated every angle and percentage -- wouldn't get in a game he didn't think he could win.

Lou Figueroa

Someone like Aarie!

That's anyone that wants to win when they play!

Anyone that 'Thinks' they're not going to win when they play is a 'Sucker/Loser or Masochist'!

yea i dont get the some kind of creep crap if you dont play when you figure to lose. ive never bet on anything i didnt feel i had an edge. and it worked for me.
artie was known away from his home area as this guy who can beat anyone on his home table and only plays on that one. but plays anybody.
but plays so slow it isnt worth it. but it worked for artie and he became rich doing the things he did best.

100% Not true!

A little 'Road story'.

In the late 60's Artie traveled West, primarily to trap Richie Florence!

Mostly along the way He hustled '8 Ball' in the bars, (He wouldn't have to show any speed) when they got to CA a 'Steer Man' from Chi-Town put Artie in the right spots.

The guy that owned 'Palace Billiards' in Frisco at the time would stake certain players for Big Cash!

One of them was a Woman 3 cushion Billiard/Carom player, Masako Katsura 'Katsy'!

When Artie and Fat Jerry hit LA, they went to 4th & Main Billiards.

They saw a little Mexican player running 1,000's playing 'Straight Rail', the only problem is the guy didn't speak a word of English.

They take Him up to the Palace to play her, the first night She just about ran out every game, they lost about $4,000!

When they got done, they had someone that spoke Spanish ask Him, "What happened, you never missed playing in LA"? The guy replied, "I never played with Ivory balls"!

The next night they went back and insisted to play with new plastics 3C balls, She beat Him so badly the Owner agreed.

Long story short, they Busted the whole pool room that night for about $18,000.00!

BTW, Richie happened to be in Vegas on other business at the time, they never played!

Does anyone know if a kiss spin bamk (sic evidently) on the 3 will go and what happens to the top 2 balls?

Thank you. I'll hold...

i said thats what he was known as away from his home area. not what he did.
Artie was the 'Most Winning %' Pool Player I've ever known!

I Only saw Him play once where He didn't have a chance to win!

At Freddy the Beard's Northshore Billiards Artie played a Hispanic player (Johnny Canelo from TX) 8 Ball on a 9' table.

They played for about 6 or 7 hours; Canelo Only missed 3 balls the entire session!

They made an appointment to play the next day for $5k, Johnny never showed up!

Canelo had a bad Herrion habit.

BTW, Johnny had the 'Smoothest Natural' stroke for a Pool Player I've ever seen!

I got to know Artie real well about a year before he played John (another great friend/mentor who I met in 85). I’ve been very very lucky to have known and been friends with some of the greatest people in pool.

Artie got interested in pool a bit for a couple years back then, Harry as well. At that time I played 8/7 9/8 below Harry. 10/6 was how I played Cotton. (Just for reference) the Cotton game was a bad game at 10/6.

Anyways Artie was helping me with my game, we’d meet about every 10 days or so and we would work on what ever Artie wanted to show me. It was beyond amazing to be there. Why me I often wondered?

I had offered to play Dippy Dave 10 ahead for 10K to 100K a rack(so up to $1M freeze out). He wouldn’t play. The posts are here and on 1P .org of me calling him out to play. Game offered was take what you make on the break 8B. I didn’t like my chances playing 1P or banks. Artie liked my 8B game so we worked on that the most. We wanted to get that game down-wow. Dave had the $, I had the $ and Artie loved it! I was ready to bet!

Game never went down, not sure why. No disrespect to Dip, he didn’t want to play. He was kinda done by that point. He was poker full time again. It would have been great!

Lunch at my house one day. This pic hasn’t been published before. I don’t post many pics.

Cotton matches the table cloth😂😃. (I spent more time playing him that any other living person over a 3 year period). He taught me how to bank. Which another 2 years later I’d have played Dip banks as well, but I wasn’t ready yet when I tried to get the big game down.

What a great time 😃

Best

I think it’s Dick Neighbors

He was a friend of Cotton’s for 50 years , super nice guy. I’m not 100% certain that him, 85% sure.

I met Dick twice, heard a lot about him. Great guy, there’s a small chance it’s someone else as Cotton brought by several friends over the years. We always had good times!

Everyone came by at one point or another, it was amazing. I don’t have many pics.
