Florida Open 2025, August 5-10, Orlando, Caribe Royale

Rule 6.6 does not specify "in play". The whole situation needs to be clarified.
I appreciate the you citing rule 6.6.

I agree clarification is needed. Because like you said there's some nonsensical applications like if you "touch an object ball" that's knocked off the table.

And meanwhile there's rule 1.4 where there's scenarios balls are to be spotted. It doesn't say Rule 6.6 is suspended during the process of spotting balls. So does that imply if a player spots balls they are committing unsportsmanlike conduct? Or does the explicit existence of 1.4 imply Rule 6.6 is suspended for that act? And likewise does Regulation 13 imply Rule 6.6 is suspended for the act of clearing pockets?

And meanwhile, I do think it's a better look for referees to just ask the players to let them handle it. And it's a better look for nobody to attempt it until "the shot is complete" including all balls stop moving.

That was pretty awesome to watch.
Gorst was up 2-0, then scratched after pocking the eight to get to the nine. Routine shot and position play he should have aced. That turned the tide.

Funny thing was, the announcers were going on about how smooth and efficient Fedor was just before the scratch. He was set to take a 3-0 lead.

Same thing happened at the WPC. Gorst went up 2-0 on Biado early, and the announcer talked about the seeming inevitability of Gorst. We all know what happened next.

Commentator's curse writ large!

I wonder if this tournament would be getting more attention if it had a better name. "Florida Open" sounds like a state championship, not a WNT major.
More attention from who? Pool fanatics know the tourney is going on. Heck, the crowd and sound of the crowd on the TV is better than what I saw or heard at the UK and Europe opens and the WPC. MR says regular tickets for the final day are already sold out.

Would we love mainstream or local coverage? Sure. But pool rarely gets any in the US. No mention at all in the main Orlando paper.

i was watching it. Like talking about a no hitter in 7th inning. cmon man. They jinxed him from get go

Seems we have an influx of very young players trying to break their way into the top echelons of pro pool.

Moritz Neuhausen, 21, already made the leap and Kledio Kaci, 19, has joined him.

AJ Manas, 18, got all the buzz a year ago, and still gets the buzz. Countryman Bernie Regalario, 20, has stepped up.

Felix Vogel, 17, is crashing the party this year.

Yannick Pongers, 20, has really caught my eye. Bit of a young hothead, but gobs of talent.

And now Albert Januarta, 17, fresh off of winning the WPC Junior title, is having a good go in the Florida Open. Won is first two matches, including a 9-5 win over Mieszko Fortunski, and now he is up 5-1 vs. Aleksa Pecelj.

Watching American juniors too. Eddie Vondereau, 17, had his biggest win ever, 8-3 over Marc Bijsterbosch. Playing Harry Vargara next (now)

Lazaro Martinez, one of the best under 20 Americans, knocked Mieszko Fortunski out of the tournament and has scored two wins. On the losers side now, but a decent chance to get to the final 64.

Also watching Eric Roberts.

Surprised no Joey Tate in Florida.

Despite the absence of Filler and some other top players who chose the World Games, this field is absolutely loaded.

I ask all American fans and pro players to appreciate that the conception of this new Matchroom major in the United States is a very big deal. Thank you, Matchroom!

I'll be attending the Florida Open and can't wait. Those of us who attended the 2024 Mosconi Cup know how good a venue the Caribe Royale is for pool. It should be a hoot.

Trying not to read anything into it but I saw a post on the book of face that Tate’s father said his son was selling his diamond pool table. Could be getting a different one. Don’t know.

Shaw fighting back from being down 8:4 to 8:7 now against phillipino Asis on table 4. Asis Missed a makebable 7 Ball to win the Match. Nailbiter…
