They all played 2nd fiddle to Turkish Taffy!!
Thats when you woke up..?Where did this come from? When I was 16, I watched Cole (Dickson) run balls effortlessly and endlessly for some time. Later, immediately after he left, I grabbed a rack and started shooting. I swear, I could feel him as I shot. It was truly as if I was him. For what seemed like 15, no, probably just like 5 minutes, I glided around the table and never missed a shot. And I, me, normally was absolutely no threat on the pool table. (Once, I had a two foot straight in full pocket shot on the nine ball in the side pocket, and Mike M., who was maybe 4 years older than me, reached out and ran his finger across the green felt in front of the cue ball. "Crisscross applesauce," he says. I proceeded to jump the cue ball right off the table. Yeah. That was about my speed.) Well, after shooting in this sort of trance for about 5 minutes, I felt this overwhelming sense that Cole was upset with me. He wasn't even there. He had already left the building. I felt I was doing something I shouldn't be doing. So I quit playing. Never tired to emulate Cole ever again...
You Bet!! Mary Janes and fizzle sticks and those hard little dots on strips of paper that you wound up eating more paper than anything else.We ate at the same penny candy store.
I’m surprised I have this tooth left. You Bet!! Mary Janes and fizzle sticks and those hard little dots on strips of paper that you wound up eating more paper than anything else.
Once in a blue moon I'd get a quarter and spend it down there. Get a huge bag full of penny candy. Some of them were 2 and 3 for a penny.
Got my money's worth!!
You touched on something every newbie should understand. like Cole's stance, as I have described in the past as being like a marble statue, the only other prerequisite is how to aim. once you know how to aim you can line everything up and this is done through your stance. You must perfect these two aspects of the shot. after this will be how to deliver the cue stick to effect the desired action on the cue ball for cue ball control. and this is determined by the desired subsequent position. and finally, position is determined by figuring out the needed angle on the next ball so as to be able to get the needed angle for the second ball ahead. etc. but it all begins with aim and stance.Watch the Snooker GOAT and do it the way Ronnie does.
I noted the stance and foundation of Cole as bullet proof. Heck when he got set, if the Stolies got him and he passed out, gravity would complete the shot.![]()
Coles wide spread straight legs were not text book but it was solid.this is done through your stance.
I remember looking directly in Cole's eyes on two particular occasions. His face was expressionless and his eyes were fixed, totally steady. There would be no way anything would move even in the slightest that he wouldn't detect. Stone cold. Killer.Coles wide spread straight legs were not text book but it was solid.
I was taught to do all the planning while standing and even walking a complete lap around the table during survey then make the plan. Then set the shooting platform. My aiming starts with the belly button and chin on the line while standing. Then a choreographed dance step.to set the platform. If I find myself modifying the plan when down on the shot it's time to get up and start over.
Matlock is the same way. We used to call it 'DraculaVision', when Dave was locked-in he looked like that famous pic of Manson. He was in another dimension when he got it rolling.I remember looking directly in Cole's eyes on two particular occasions. His face was expressionless and his eyes were fixed, totally steady. There would be no way anything would move even in the slightest that he wouldn't detect. Stone cold. Killer.
That reminds me of the time Cole had a straight in shot that was the length of a spot shot from the kitchen. He lined it up and then knocked the back off the pocket...while looking into the eyes of the cute waitress.remember looking directly in Cole's eyes
Butterfingers and Slo-Poke caramel is the absolute worst for sticking to my teeth and I love them both.I loved how they stuck to my teeth for a month.
