Flat faced 5/16x14 shaft question?

I have an older helmstetter cue that is 5/16x14 thread. The original shaft has a beveled portion that protrudes out and gets recessed into the butt of the cue when screwed together. However that shaft is warped, and the shaft i am wanting to replace it with is a flat faced 5/16x14 thread.
Am i wondering if this will be ok to use, or if there will be issues with the new shaft not having the beveled portion that will recess into the butt of the cue for structural reasons or otger reasons? Thanks

that 'beveled portion' as you call it is a 'pilot' as in a 'piloted joint'. depending on how much pin sticks up you should be able to use an un-piloted shaft on it.

I have a couple of flat faced I use on my piloted 5/16-14. Never had an issue.

Generally no problem, but I have seen the inserts pull out when tightened. I believe those inserts were improperly installed. Not the end of the world even if it happens.

Recently acquired a Schon with the 5/16-14 thread that won't screw down on my extensions properly.
I'm sure it's been asked on here B4 and don't want to hijack the thread, but are Schons threads undersized?? Like .308 instead of .3125 on Joss and others, or is it something else entirely??

I can't answer that. @Michael Webb probably knows of the top of his head. I don't really do repair work, just build my own.

There are some Schons with a .302 or .303 but the o.d. on the brass inserts on Schon Cues are .528 not .490 / .495.
Which means it should screw down until it hits the brass insert.

There were some years when a normal 14 thread like Joss or Black would fit on a Schon but not vice versa….the fitting on the Schon was more exact….a minute on a lathe would solve the problem.

Thanks Mike. What about these Rhino extensions?? They list 3 different thread sizes for 5/16-14. Standard, Oversized and Undersized.
I'm thinking the Schon thread is the Undersized??
I guess I could just crank it down after cutting off the pilot tit.🤦🏻‍♂️😉
No way will I pay what Schon charges for a mid cue.

This is an older model Runde and I'm not going to mess w it. Take super good care of the cue, only play it on every 5th groundhog day during leap year.
Or, I could just cut the tit off and crank it. 😳😉

I got an oversized Rhino in 5/16x14 and it was too tight to fit my cues including the Schons that i have. I had to tap the shaft to fit.

I honestly don't know about them
I made my first extension for a guy in
1995. I thought he was nuts.

And, there are variations. The Black 5/16 X 14 was a bit thicker than the Joss or Scruggs 14 thread pin. And Stroud's was even more different. It tightened up as you screwed it in. No such thing as standard when it comes to pins.
