strong pull through by yapp in L16. he had the crowd against him up until the last ball dropped in the shootout.

Last 2 games of the 2nd set, Shane figured out the break, and you could just see a huge boost in his energy. Started the 3rd set with 2 B&Rs, and was on his way. Yapp spent most of the next hour plus in his chair. Shane won 10 of the last 11 games that they played. It was awesome.

As he showed against Filler and Yapp, Hoang is no longer just a "nice" player. He has been one of the most consistent performers in the past two years:

*Fifth at the 2025 Euro Open
*9th at the 2025 UK Open
*9th in the 2025 WPC
*3rd in the 2025 Battle of the Bull,
*9th in the 2025 US Open
*1st in the 2024 Scottish Open
*17th in the 2024 US Open

Looking at the WNT rankings and Fargo ratings, I'd put him among the top 10-15 players in the world. I myself would rank him at 11 or 12 right now.

As for Filler, I have been pointing out for some time that he's been slightly more erratic since the WNT-WPA spat. But I would in no way say he is a shadow of his former self. All players go through relative ups and downs in their careers, which can be quite long for great players.

I would like to see Filler get back to playing almost all the big Matchroom events. I really do think they create a pressure cooker that few if any WPA/Predator events can match.

up next for shane is alex kazakis in the semifinals. another matchup with some history (world pool masters final iirc?).

the other semifinal is current champion biado vs either lil ko or szolnoki

Watching the match, I noticed something that was common in other women's games. The women executed safeties far less effectively than the men. It wasn't so much conception as it was execution. They overrun their mark more frequently or under hit the ball.

Rubilen cost herself dearly in safety battles. She also hooked herself a couple of times. Mental errors she doesn't usually make. She was shaking her head a lot, something I rarely see her do. She knew she blew it.

Saw a lot of that in the 10b and mixed dubs too. I think a lot of players aren't used to that table and were having trouble adjusting. Lots of confused looks at ball speed and reactions to the rails.

Isn't that just one of her main weaknesses though?
 
Kazakis on the hill on the 5th set after a runout with two fortunate bumps on a tough rack. Shane needs a strong finish. Down 3-1 in the deciding set, but on the table. He should be breaking if he gets through the rack.
 
Shane ties it with a little miracle. Kazakis witha few more fortunate bumps, but got unfortunate himself.
