Pool Ball Collecting.

Needed one set, got one set.

This hobby has a strange karmic quality to it. Get greedy, be ruthless, don't share info, it will all come back to haunt you...
It's true.
Didn't realize you were able to grab one of those. Congratulations they're a good addition and cool ball.

I bought a Johnnie Walker gift set at Costco. Perfect for an evening of comparing the blends while playing the Johnnie Walker set. The box was the same size as a billiard ball box so my set also got a nice new home.

Hello again, Chi-Rack.

I believe the original Johnnie Walker box was just the generic black bubble box from China, dear chap. I won my own set at a tournament sponsored by Johnnie Walker and it was in that plain box.

I stand to be corrected, but your ingenious upgrade is the best it’s ever been as far as I’m aware, sir.

I’ve been scrolling this forum for a while and it’s made me pay more attention to marketplace haha. Anyway I don’t think I’ve seen a set like this in person before. $45 doesn’t seem like a bad deal, or maybe it is idk.

Hello, Enimrac.

Welcome to the thread, sir.

I believe that is an early set of Aramith Continentals.

The numbers and stripes were screen printed so rather prone to scratches and scuffs, but due to this fact finding a nice example like yours is often tough, dear chap.

Sincere thanks for sharing.

Hello, Ric.

Welcome to the thread, dear chap.

That set is quite mysterious. Other than the fact that the balls were made by Hyatt after the company had moved to Fort Edward and sent to a Virginian newspaper, nobody seems to know much about the purpose or design of this, rather beautiful, set.

Collector Chuck Jones of Michigan was the first to coin the nickname Gumballs and the name has stuck. Since a seller began listing several examples on eBay a few years ago prices seem to have steadily risen.

You are correct. To make it even more odd, the Virginian Pilot/Ledger Star ordered these in a case lot. Very strange. Here's the shipping label from the original box they were shipped in.

Appreciate the info! I was considering buying but if they have no purpose other than collecting… I am not sure I am interested. If I purchase a set I prefer they have a purpose on the table. I am new collecting. I have 5 sets so I am not even sure I qualify as collector, yet. At the moment, I am looking to scoop up the aramith 7 ball set with the rack. Other than eBay I am unsure where else to look… I have 142 pages to sift through here though. I am sure I will come up with some interesting while I do.

Thanks again for the back story on those balls

I remember when I only had five sets, and then I read this entire thread...

This is what my collection looks like now as I was packing them up to move...
