Lowest deflection kielwood

I've made many torrified maple shafts. And I am currently playing with one.
Low deflection = lower end mass = removing material at the end of the shaft and using very light ferrules.
Yes, torrified maple is brittle and I've seen shafts explode. Boring them out makes this even more likely.
Do not accept a torrified shaft without nice straight grain. If the grain runs off, that's where it will break.
I've had very good luck with radially laminated shafts, and have yet to see one break.

the fear would be the cored kw. even let's say that it's reinforced with cf tube. the kw could still be susceptible to cracking and it's only held up by epoxy resin. or let's say the kw would act like the bark of a tree wrapped with glue?
Don't know, but it makes sense that brittle wood would be more prone to cracking if cored. The cf tube would probably help if it was cored the same diameter but it would probably raise deflection because it would be more end mass.

For all the kielwood users out there, whats the lowest deflection kielwood youve used?

Im looking for z3/revo level deflection but in kielwood

Leaning towards the SS360/2 but I havent been able to get my hands on one to try it out.

Thanks
Remind me original 314 but better in every way! Yes there that good. my to go kiel on cues here on out.

There is a sound “issue” with mine but I contribute it the tip installed (Kamui Clear Tan Hard) that gave me bad sound on another shaft as well. I need to replace the tip and see if it gets better, I’m sure it will.

I have a solid maple shaft that was made from a Barnhart old growth maple blank with an Agis ferrule for a custom cue made for me. Best sound ever but I don’t use it as I prefer low deflection shafts.
Mine was not as noisy, solid KW. Changing the tip makes a big difference.
And i agree, the old growth shafts are the best maple i have hit with.
I have two custom made.

my problem with kw is the sound. i've hit a few and they all make this funky 'tonk' sound that i can't stand. rather hit maple or cf any day.
I would imagine the sound you are referring to is @ the 2:28 mark of this video >>>

as far as deflection, this kw looks underwhelming.

There's a reason Justin Bergman plays with one. And it's not money.
I know the creator of the SS360 very well, and that's where I source the blanks I make mine out of.
If the OP can get ahold of one, they should do it.

He makes some exaggerated claims, for sure.
I find the torrified shafts do make a slightly higher pitched sound. I don't mind it at all. I believe sound to be a small but important part of the shot process, and can be used by the subconscious mind.

Are you shooting pool with it or chopping wood?

Consider putting a linen sound buffer tip pad on as well if you are going to replace the tip anyway.
Yeah, I'm going that road with all my tip installations, I use the Mezz pads

CF is lighter than wood

A really good player was very impressed with my Diveney and its Trans K Kielwood shaft when hitting with it. I’m taking that as a pretty solid recommendation - I don’t have any other kielwood to compare it to.

you guys got me interested into this kielwood stuff, so I ordered one to come along with the custom cue I asked a builder to make for me. I will have the shaft down to 11.8mm with a soft tip and acrylic ferrule since garczar got me concerned about the sound thing. the cue wood choices are spalted tamarind and rosewood. handle would be rosewood and the butt would be a spalted tamarind with 2 personalized logo (front and back) embedded with abalone inlays. rings are also abalone inlays. the forearm would be spalted tamarind base with rosewood veneers/with white and black lining. the other cue I would use with it is a hard maple cored amboyna burl cue.
