Hello all,

I’m in NYC and looking to hopefully try out a Whyte carbon fiber “raw” shaft. Even better if it has a VQR pin I can try on my butt.

Short of that, anyone out there locked into Viking that went with this choice? What was your experience?

I have one I use on my viking. I like it. Definitely go with the raw as I find the white colored ones a bit sticky. I'm a bit on the fence on the price of the shafts though. I won mine in a raffle so the price wasn't a factor for me.

My wife plays with a Viking that has the QR joint with a black collar. I don't remember the model now, but it was about $450-500 back in 2013ish time frame. Has a Whyte Raw 12.75mm shaft and currently has a SIB Cool Blue medium tip on it.
I sometimes hit balls with it, and I think it plays really nice. Has a solid, quality hit with good feedback and no funny sounds.
She's still relatively new to pool and often after a league match or in a tournament some of the better players will show her a few things she can work on or demonstrate a shot using her cue and quite a few have commented that they really like how it plays.

I agree, no funny sounds or vibration, the insert seems to stay tight and it stays tight on the cue. Mines an 11.8mm

Good to hear, thank you! That’s what I’m seeing online too, but for $600 I’d just love to shoot with one for 10 minutes. They will let you use chalk and still return if needed, as long as no other signs of use, but of I’d rather not go through that. I also know there are cheaper out there and this is my first carbon shaft. I wish I’d known about VQR proprietary bullshit when I bought my cue! I do love it it though.
