I'm back, and in a new shop space!

Well, not that I really ever left. I just had to take a two month break from making cues to deal with some necessary adjustments in life. One of them, the biggest being building a shop space in my basement since my garage was non-climate controlled, not even insulated. -20F and cues don't mix.

Finally got the shop space all buttoned up for the most part. Few odds and ends here and there when I get to it, like adding more fans to the fume extractor set up.

Time to settle back into making some cues and repairing the the stack of em that people gave to me to fix while I was building out my shop space.

Pretty excited to be back at it and just wanted to share with the family!

Looks like you are exhausting outside, I’d like to do the same in my basement shop. Do you have problems with the air flow messing up the hvac in the rest of the house ?

Yep, exhaust is vented straight out the security block window.

Not sure what you mean by problems with the air flow messing up the hvac in the house so I'll take a few stabs.

Relative to the environment, the fans produce negligible negative pressure in the room if that's what your curious of. One singular muffin fan I use is about 200cfm, so it's not going to suck the air out of the house, I plan on adding one more, and that should be plenty to take care of superglue fumes and epoxy smells with a better hood setup.

I don't have any HVAC vents running into this room, and I did that on purpose because I don't want any possible fume leakage through the HVAC system, so if that's what you're referring to, I wouldn't be sure, because I don't have a single intake or vent in that room. I doubt the fans would create enough flow to mess with the hvac in any-manner though. I was just concerned with cross-room contamination through the vents.

I use a little space heater when necessary, but it's been -20F outside and only 56F in the room, so need for a heater really.

As for fumes outside, not gonna lie, it's pretty obnoxious if you're standing right by the window / exhaust outlets. If you're blowing your exhaust out anywhere near a neighbor (like within 10ft), you're gonna be gassing your neighbors lol. If your exhaust is below any windows that will be opened in the future, make sure that window is closed before you turn on the fume extractor system.

Have to admit, as an old Wisconsin boy who's been in Florida for 30 years, I do miss a basement!
That's where I'm at! Milwaukee is my home :)

Born and raised in this Polish flat. House was built in 1919, basement was dug and poured by the original owner in 1940, and my dad is the second owner ever of the house. She ain't pretty, but she's sturdy.

Thanks, that was my question and my setup is like yours (basement room no vents or intake).

Nice. WEN products are not bad at all. I have their track saw and it works great. Just doesn't have the same power as the Festool but if you go slow it's fine.

I’m a laggard on adopting it. Everyone swears by it though. I’m a hair too cheap for it.
I get that!

What finally pushed me over the edge is how well everything integrates with their small/portable dust collectors.

My current shop space is so small that I don't have room for a large dedicated dust collection system that I've had in the past.

I have a love / hate relationship with WEN. They have amazing customer support, and some great tools, but like I always tell people "It's not IF, it's WEN it breaks". I've broken almost every WEN tool I've owned, and this dust collector is one of them lmfao. They work, but they're never built as sturdy as the regular name brands. This dust collector has a fan made out of what I swear is glass. Two of the bolts came pre-stripped (woo!) and one of the hose clamps was useless.. No big deal, but you get what you pay for.

I usually buy WEN for things I don't use every single day, or if I use it often, it's specific to my needs, like this dust collector. I couldn't really find a comparable collector for my space / weight / hanging needs in this price range, so it's worth replacing parts when I break it.

Do you vent outside also? Or just use the Festool units with your tools?
