Fedor Gorst - looking for action in Louisville, KY tomorrow. If you could - would you?

Absolutely right! An amateur player will learn nothing in this situation. The only thing you get for your $100 is the chance to meet Fedor and a chance to say "I played pool against Fedor Gorst" for the rest of your life. To many, that's worth $100, and to many it is not. Each must make his/her own decision.

It's not even an honorable loss -- you are paying him directly to kick your ass.

nothing similar to
a tournament draw

I understand everyone's perspective - was just sharing mine. Granted Sky and Fedor are different people but I'm basing my expectation on what happened with one and I'd articulate that with the other if the opportunity came up. If I lost a a $100.00 set to Fedor and got nothing from it, no guidance/advice/thoughts post set and didn't think it was worth it, then I'd pull up and pay him $100.00 and walk away - so be it. Let's face it, $100.00 doesn't have the buying power it used to so losing it isn't going to break me or piss me off - it's just what it cost me to play. Now if I took as much away from that set as I did from Sky, then I'd play another on the same terms. It's all personal preference and depends on the situation and how it plays out, but I understand and appreciate everyone's perspective as no one's wrong in what they said.

go do it you have my support although i think it is wasted money,

but if you are one of those that come on here and say gambling at pool is bad and gamblers are hustlers and bad people, and you go and gamble away your money on this pool game then you are just a hypocrite who tries to justify his own actions.

I have nothing against gambling, and playing for cash certainly increases my attention to detail. But this isn't gambling. It's paying $100 for the opportunity to play a game of pool on the same table as one of the top players in the world. As there's no chance of winning, I wouldn't describe it as gambling. And it's not "throwing your money away" anymore than spending top dollar for a bottle of wine. If it's something that brings you pleasure, then spend the $100.

first it is gambling although badly but he is putting up his 100 against yours. that is the definition of gambling.
it is throwing your money away. but if you want to, so be it. as i said in my first line above.

for it to be spending then it needed to be asking to be paid 100 dollars to play with me, for such an amount of time. and hopefully he would give pointers. but none of that was included.

this whole thing is incredulous

My only issue is you deciding what is "wasted money" and what isn't. That's a decision each person gets to make. I live in Maine and I see tourists spending $45 on a Lobster roll every summer. But I've never seen such happy people. Me? I buy the lobster from my neighbor, who's a fisherman, at $5/lb. To each their own. The tourists aren't wasting their money. They're enjoying their life.

Seems there are 3 schools of thought.

1 - Dead/Angry/wasted money racking for Fedor
2 - A chance to meet and play on the same table as one of the greats of the game

Or the third, and I have relayed this perspective in a discussion about CJ.

If it were me, the price of 1 bill buys the story.

“Have I ever told you about the time I almost beat Fred Ghost for the cash?”

😎

For me the Gorsts, Kos and Fillers are an immediate attraction. Seriously, the current top 5 have visible skills that take them thru the tape time and time again. Woodward - who? Oi - who? On and on.

I know how pool goes. I have no clue how Champion goes.

Since you put it that way - lobster rolls at d64s house next summer 😁

People go to a Casino and lose 100 dollars in a millisecond and don't worry about it.

If you are worried about 100 dollars when you are interacting with a world champion then you may be a nit..........

Gorst just put this on his FB page (https://www.facebook.com/gorstfedor)

>>> Looking for practice sets tomorrow in Louisville, KY area. $100 sets min, one pocket or banks preferably. Can do rotation games or we can alternate every set.
Leave a comment if interested! <<<

Obviously he's looking for practice ahead of the DCC. If you're an experienced 1P or Banks player - then what a chance. $100 to play one of the best players in the world - at a game that you probably play more than he does.

Sure - he's going to be fav to win but man, I think you'd have to risk the $100 for the experience. I would anyway if he was in my town. Would you?
Yes....because winning even one set is a big deal.
