That miss on the 2 ball I think it was… he knew he couldn’t miss that against Filler.

It was last year at 1:30 am on Sunday when Filler and Van Boening met with 4 players left in the event. Filler won 9-0, with 8 B&Rs, in 29 minutes. So this year he meets SVB again at the same point in the event with 4 players left. Same result -- 9-0. I didn't get to see that match, so I don't know how many B&Rs he had or exactly how long the brief match took.
We don't know how the Final will go against either Meglino or Patsura, But Filler's performance in this event has just been amazing. He had to forfeit his Round 2 match. But he has played 12 matches with 108 games won and 30 lost. No opponent has won more than 4 games.

Maybe they need to change the rules like they have done in the past when someone figures something out that makes them almost unbeatable. Maybe the one in the side doesn't count on the break and just gets spotted back up? Bank every other shot? Filler seems to have the game mastered. They might have to get creative.

Sometimes it seems like Filler is annoyed that he even has to run out the balls when his opponent misses and leaves him an open shot. Like it's such a formality at that point that he's irritated he even has to put forth the effort to do the inevitable.
I strongly disagree with this approach. The match was not 9 break and runs. It wasn’t the soft break/ pattern rack type pool we saw in the template rack no break rules bar table events from a few years ago. Shane had a couple chances. The score got ugly. Filler plays great. There is nothing wrong with the best in the world playing great IMO. You can argue that they have made things tougher over the years with 9 on the spot, etc…. But people seem to clamor for 4” pockets and gaff rules when 4.5” Diamonds are not easy. I don’t mind seeing great players run balls. The game isn’t straight rail billiards where matches can be run fairly routinely. I dunno. I just don’t favor restrictor plate pool. If a guy wins the lag and runs the set, applaud him, don’t reach for the rule book. IMO
it's a pro-am, it's as simple as that. they tried tighter pockets one year and it didn't work with the amateurs

I agree with you. I was being a little facetious. I just remember when Corey figured out the soft break they changed the rules. They have changed from the 1 on the spot to the 9 on the spot, just to slow people down. I agree, when someone figures something out, that isn't cheating, that helps them win more matches, they should be applauded. I don't think anyone will ever get so good that all they have to do is win the lag and they are guaranteed to run out the set.
I don't care much for Filler, but he has shot amazing 9 ball in the last couple of days. People are going to have to really take advantage the few opportunities he gives in order to have any chance at all.
Perhaps one problem with the nine ball scheduling is that nine ball isn’t so fluid as it used to be. Since the Filipinos introduced a more complex concept for kicking, it has become more tactical and, as a result, slower.

It's the same kind of thinking that got us to superfast tables so that people didn't need a "stroke" and jump cues for those who couldn't kick.

I went and watched it again. Filler had 4 B&Rs. A 3 pack in games 6,7, and 8. He’s an 858. Playing well deep in a tournament. I mention this because I think people tend to overestimate the runout percentages at all levels.
Game 1. Filler wins lag. (Skill). Makes the wing ball. Has a tough cut on the 1. Has a tough shot on 2. MISSES. On those “easy” 4.5” pockets. ( just saying for the 4” and less advocates). SVB MISSES long straight shot on 2. He’s an 846. Yes, they miss. Filler banks 2 and gets out.
Game 2. Wing ball and 1 go on the break. He had a shot. Hooks himself. Kicks leaving SVB a full view of the ball. SVB misses bank. Filler out.
Game 3. Wing ball, 1 ball, and another ball on break. Tough shot on 2. Misses, leaves it tough. SVB 2 way shot. Misses, leaves safe. Filler makes hit with a jump, leaves SVB a look. SVB misses safe, sells out. Filler misses shape on 3, plays safe. SVB misses kick, gives up bih. Filler out.
Game 4. B&R. Wing hangs, 1 in side. Combo on the 2 and wing ball hanger, run out.
Game 5. Dry break. SVB has shot on 1. Misses. Filler makes a good combo. 7&8 sit funny. He tries to break them out, hits them but has to play a combo. Makes 7-8 combo. Both the 8 on the combo and the 7 wipe their feet on the 4.5” pockets.
6-7-8. 3 pack B&R
Game 9. 1 in side on break plus another ball. Plays safe. SVB kicks hard and hopes. Filler gets out in a run with two easy combos and one carom.
From 2 great players we saw both great play and misses. Shane had chances and didn’t capitalize. I didn’t see anything wrong with the game itself or that it is easy, even for players at the very top..

to be fair, shane played a couple give up shots. he was gone early. filler actually played worse than last year when he played TPA 1.000 against shane.
