Specialized Chalks - Pricing/Performance/Pre-shot routine/etc.

I use whatever is in my bag or on the rail of the table. I went through all the chalks you could think of, liked some more than others, but at the end of the day I kept losing $20 pieces of chalk and I don't like that.

Back to free chalk for me.
Seriously? I've never lost a piece yet. Found a few but never lost one( coulda been yours?). Taom made be a believer. Never going back to that nasty dusty free crap. Only time i might still use it is in a bar situation, too many ways the good stuff might 'disappear'.

I used Master blue my whole life - but with my new table being delivered soon I just bought some Taom / I want to keep this new Simonis and everything else as clean as possible - time will tell for me. If it works well I’ll give my son a few cubes for his home table and away with the Master for our home rooms at least😁

I've never been a well organized kind of guy in that aspect.

Put me in a bar with people, shootin pool, talkin shit, then it's 2am and I am tired and want to get home, don't grab my chalk, and it's never there the next day.

Is what it is.

I've lost a couple blocks to ProAms. So I don't set my chalk near pockets anymore. 😂
Also almost lost one in a dark pool hall. Dropped it on the floor, landed face down, couldn't see it. Found it after I had grabbed my spare.

I played with Triangle chalk for what seems like forever, I liked the consistency of it over Masters. Then a friend and mentor became terminally ill with cancer and I purchased the last of his billiard belongings and amongst it was a half dozen 2 piece boxes of Russian Magic Chalk.

After trying it I actually preferred it over Triangle and now use it regularly. What I found unusual was 2 of the boxes had black wrapping and the rest had gold wrapping. By the time I realized it he had passed away so I couldn’t ask him about it. It’s really good chalk, not as messy as Triangle, coats the tip well, and while I do chalk every shot, I know those who don’t. One of those players uses it as well, and says he can go through a rack or two without fear of miscues.

Got one of those green Taom eye shadow pieces of chalk as a gift.
It's ok. Less of a mess for sure.
But my personal opinion is that it's best for new equipment/cloth and getting around on tables requiring a poke stroke.
I grew up on old Brunswick's where you needed a big stroke to get around the table and on that equipment, it seems that an piece of Master, has WAY more grip on big stroke shots and the cue ball does more work as a result, than the eye shadow is capable of.
Side by side, the new eye shadow makeup type chalks just don't translate into actual cueball work IMO. Cueball doesn't go as far.
But that's just me.
The eye shadow works fine otherwise.
