Joss Cue Question

Since I’ve never owned one but every one I’ve hit with was good, I’m considering a Joss as my next cue I don’t need. ( Disclaimer—Yes, I know it won’t make me better, it’s the archer not the arrow etc…). How is the joint compatibility of the Joss with aftermarket 5/16-14 shafts? Not my main concern, but with plain black joint collars it would seem I’d have good luck with aftermarket shafts. I know some piloted joints might differ and am wondering if Joss is standard ( my guess) or quirky?

The only problem I ever ran into...is that you can't (or couldn't, in the past, anyway) put a Schon shaft on a Joss. The piloted insert on Schon shafts is (or used to be) too thick.

Every other non-Joss shaft I've tried has worked perfectly.

I have a Revo with my Joss, no issues, plays great!!

Same. I have a few Revo 12.9mm shafts...one for each of my Joss cues.

Need to get one for my PK Custom. Maybe a Revo blank, and have Cody match the ringpack? Wonder if that's even an option...?

Played with a Joss for many years. Bought a Predator 314-2 shaft with the 5/16x14 joint for my Joss not long after I first got it and it fit like it was made for it.

Joss is an outstanding cue, love the brand, love the design, especially the gold label cues from the 80's!

You can use any 5/16-14p shaft your heart desires!

Except there were some weird butts made in the early 90's with acme pins that don't work with standard shafts.

Same here, now I have the314- 3 Great Combination love the Hit !

Like @mdc and @gerard soriano , I bought a Predator 314-2 shaft and it fits perfectly on my 1985 Joss. IIRC, OB shafts also fit my Joss. I still prefer the Joss shafts, but that’s not your question.

Where you might have issues is hoping to use older, custom 5/16x14 shafts. For many, the pilot/tenon is wider than the opening in the Joss butt. I was willing to sand the tenons of my Showman shafts to fit the Joss. But I won’t let sandpaper anywhere near my Szamboti shafts. Also, inserts in older Schick and maybe older Schon shafts are too tight to fit Joss pins.
