New Here? - Introduce Yourself

Howdy, I'm in Carmichael CA I do play pool but here is why I joined the forum. My father in law recently passed, loved him like my dad, left me with some Carom billiard things I'm unsure how to go about selling. He has a custom cue (40 yold) with 3 shafts the initials RK at the base. He told me it cost him $1600 40 years ago. He also left me a vintage Brunswick classic 11' × 5' tournament table. And a few sets of Belgium balls. I saw the table sell (refurbished) for 26k in New York. This table is in excellent condition. Im looking for advice before I post it for sale. No local dealers are interested in a table with no holes..

You are in the Main Forum, which is the correct place to begin. Start a new thread in the Main Forum. Be sure to include pictures of the cue, joint, and bumper as well as inlay work and shaft beside butt. Clear and in focus. Post pictures of the table, also. Use an interesting title. I think the limit is maybe 5 pictures per post, so it may take two posts in the new thread to get everything there. There are experts here that are happy to help.

Thanks. I'll have photos next week. Should I post in the main forum to get information before posting in the 4 sale thread?
That was how I interpreted your post. Simply state what you know and what further info would help. Sometimes someone will respond with price ranges. Other times you will get push back for asking. Start simple and go with the flow.

Hi!!!
Obviously I’m a newbie to this site. Was lurking for awhile and really enjoyed the stories of the old players. I hail from a very small Kansas town but have lived in Wichita for almost 11 years. My husband Jim has been my mentor, my coach, my opponent lol. We play mostly 9 ball. Winner breaks, push out allowed and two shot foul, old school play. Jim is one of the OG’s honestly playing in the late 60’s, the 70’s and into the 80’s. He tells me all the old stories: Burkes Steakhouse, Greg Steven’s, Matlock. He played Jr when junior was just a kid…he has lots of fond memories. He doesn’t shoot much now, mostly coaching me and setting up practice shots for me. We both play with Shurtz cues, made by Bob Owen. They are very nice cues!! I’m thinking of joining a league but wonder if I should just continue working with Jimmy and then maybe start getting into some local tournaments. I dunno. I love the mental discipline of the sport and of course the skill. It’s challenging and it’s fun.

Hi all. I play in a BCA league and the APA Masters. Just got myself an old Victor pool table that I am fixing up myself. I am not a table mechanic but have worked on a few before. If anyone else has a Victor, I'd love to learn more about them and what it is I actually have. I will be searching through this site for info. Will probably post some pics up of the table I'm working on. G'day

I've only been a member since 2017. Still listed as new member. 55, 5 eye surgeries, Army vet and Pawpaw. If my typing looks a little off, I'm probably on my phone, without glasses. I started playing pool at a local grocery store/bar around 15 years old. I like Joss, Meucci, and other brand cues.

Everybody here has a story.
Life is a journey and so is pool.
Can't go wrong with a Joss in my opinion.

My newest custom Joss.

I first started playing pool at age 14, when I finally walked away from the Galaga and Dig-Dug video games and tried my hand on a coin-op table in the arcade. The very first thing I learned about pool is that it's a lot more fun when you make the balls. Thus, here I am, 4 decades later, still trying to make more balls. If I had a lick of natural talent, I'd be a far better player by now. As it is, I have to work way too long and hard, just to keep my meager game viable for infrequent forays into the local pool hall.
Bought my first cue ( a Meucci 84-3) in the summer of '86, from the owner of an arcade in Ft. Collins, CO that I'd been frequenting since the 5th grade. Eight years later, I bought an 8' Kasson pool table from him, with proceeds from my Magic the Gathering cards (could have bought a house instead, if I'd have kept them). Now, almost 35 years (and several moves) later, I still have both cue and table, and use them every day.
Sure, I've tried other cues over the years, but familiarity carries a strong bias. After so long with the same cue, nothing but a classic Meucci ever felt quite right.
Haven't played competitively in two decades, but planning to play in a local bar tourney tomorrow, just to see how it feels to have some actual competition for once.

Hey all! I've been shooting pool since I turned 21 and could start playing at bars. I shot with my brother and my dad every Wednesday for years when we lived in the same town but then I moved right as the pandemic started to a bigger city with my wife. I miss playing with them weekly but they are only a couple hours away down I5 so we see each other often enough and keep up on playing. I took a big break from pool while everything was shut down but a couple years ago a friend convinced me to join a league and I've been playing competitively ever since. I've recently gotten into billiard table recovery and now I have a handful of tables around the city in some of my favorite bars. I have a website, magicrollbilliards.com, where you can see the products I've created and the services I offer in the PNW but I'm a player first and a business second. I love all things pool related and am here to keep up with the pool community and get to meet some more like minded enthusiasts like me. Cheers!

What part of the PNW ? Do you care to narrow it down a little bit ? That could mean that you're in Butte Mt ??? Ha ha

I'm guessing closer to Seattle , I still have family all over the PNW .

Hi everyone, I am Jonnie. I have been lurking here for about a year waiting to be approved for membership.

I started playing pool back in 85 but stopped after about a year- I resumed playing at the beginning of 2024. I played one double jeopardy APA league. I have since started to play another Double jeopardy league night. Recently raised to an SL 6/6 but seem to struggle to really increase my abilities- but I am working on it. My wife and I have purchased a Diamond bar box and built a room to help us enjoy the game.

Portland! I have yet to do any service work up in Seattle but am planning a trip up there soon. I've got my products in every pro shop in Oregon at this point and my next stop is Washington. I've made it to Vancouver so just started working my way up! I've serviced all the way down to Eugene so far which is great as I have family down there to visit as well.

I've got a handful of Valley bar boxes but I love a diamond! Hoping to have one of those to add to my collection soon but I may have a hard time getting it out of my garage haha, might just use it for personal play

I've got a buddy who lived in the Portland area , who I've not spoke with in ages .
The typical story how everyone gets busy with family , work , life in general and then you loose track of friends , A sad deal !
I've got some friends around Bend Or also ha ha I know way to many people !

Great problem to have! I've got friends in Bend too and love to visit, not much of a pool scene there though haha so we usually stick to hiking and swimming
