Tournament organizer admits he gambled away all of the tournament prize money 😂

My point is when was last time you heard of PGA winner stiffed, or a NASCAR, NHRA, NBA, NFL, MLB, or NHL Player getting rubber or no check?

Pool is it had one group scanting it, escrowing, or guaranteeing money this BS would stop.

Until them Pool players are at the mercy of dishonest promotors, bar owners, or room owners.

you're missing the point. predator, WNT, duya, JOY are all paying out the prize money (and some of it is pretty damn good, for a small sport). this isn't one of those events, this is an independent event in some african backwater

Now that we're done with making fun of Johnny Archer, I figured it was time for a thread on a new payment controversy.

Aden Joseph, one of the top African pool players, organized a tournament in South Africa called Ghost Nation. It promised a R500k (~$30k USD) prize pool, so about the scale of a Matchroom Ranking event. After the tournament concluded, a bunch of players complained about not getting paid. Today, the organizer explained that a sponsor pulled out of of the event at the last minute and he decided to try to make up the funding gap via gambling 😂

Sounds like this guy should move to the U.S., and open up a day-care center. He seems perfectly qualified.

We had a situation in Oneida NY a long time ago. The room owner Justin fancied himself a pool player and much as he fancied himself a poker player. We had a 10 ball break and run pot that was up to 8k. We were selling a lot of tickets weekly, at least 600 to 800.

He had blown the money on pocker and didn't tell anyone.

He had one player "buying" a couple hundred in tickets each week. but turns out he wasn't buying them. Justin and he had a plan that if he got picked and won, he'd get a reduced payout and save Justin's a$$. Myself and another player, who was a beast of a guy easily 350#, bought a good $300 plus of the tickets each week.

So one night Justin tells me some nonsense about somebody breaking into the room and stealing checks. He even named a player who had a record as a suspect. He said he that because of the check theft, that he didn't have any of the 10 ball money. Then later that evening before the tournament he announced to the players at the tournament that he's closing in a few weeks because he's broke and the 10 ball money was stolen.

I came in from out of the area to play his room. I wasn't friends with him. Yet I was the first guy he told about this check they nonsense?? Bullshit. He knew I had spent a lot on tickets along with this other guy and was feeling me out a bit. I'd made plenty there on the 10 ball pot and tournaments.

The monster of a man who spent a lot of money on tickets was pissed, unless he was the best actor in the world. How he or any of us let Justin live remains a mystery. Over a period of 4 weeks til he closed nobody did a thing to this guy, even though we all knew he stole 8k of our money.

Is this part of a three way with the guys who threw matches weeks ago. I thought most were people on here were being too lenient on them, but where this guys from, i think they cut off hands for less.
What is happening to the pool culture these days?
People are soft....

And

There are no unwilling victims

the room owner and the person that put it on are both involved and profit from the event. so both are responsible for the money. and an easy small claims court or police report will make a big difference in getting paid.

to just let it go is foolish as you got cheated and stolen from.

just because a person takes what isnt his and the prize fund isnt his to keep;
it is a form of embezzlement and a felony which entails maybe jail time. so the person who stole it, not being a run away thief, is going to have a major headache and make it good.

it has no bearing on how he lost it. if it was stolen from the bar his insurance gets involved.
if an individual held it then it is felony theft.

People like you?
Sometimes I let shit slide....sometimes not.

I met my wife at age 21. She told me a guy she knew owed her money. I asked nicely for it. When he didn't pay, I got it from him by repossessing a few items from his house. I went back and I asked him to pay again....he kinda laughed in my face. I knew where he worked and we had a meeting when he got out. He was a local pharmaceutical salesman so when I beat his face into the ground he kept it quiet.

I got a bunch of other times I been tested. Right is right even if it takes doing wrong to get it there.

You told a story about a room owner ripping you and several others off, did nothing about it. In the next post said pool culture is soft🤣.

Now you tell a story where you made a stupid decision and didn't do time, pay restitution, be held financially liable, gain a violent criminal record, and generally fk up you entire life... not to mention your relationship with your wife is because you got very lucky the guy didn't press charges...over a few bucks.

Pool culture hasn't gone soft, as you say. You just hear about it more now because people make it public. Same stuff has been happening forever.

The only time people handle things like your story is if they are full time criminals, have nothing to lose, are incredibly stupid, or some combination of those things.

Point is if Pool had one body over all of Pool, armature & professional.

One set of rules, escrow of all Tournment money, etc.

Would be good for the sport, and attracting sponsors.

Works with Tennis, Golf, Rodeo, etc.

yes call them up and say in a clear voice so and so stole our money and we want to press charges.

things will happen quickly
