$1.5M first place prize for Chinese tournament next week

Just saw this flyer posted by the Duya Legends Tour. It's a golden nine tournament (basically 9 ball on Chinese tables). The headline is the first place prize of ~$1.5M USD, which is about 8x what you'd get for winning the World 9-ball Championship.

A few things that stand out
  • A sponsor in the shape of a niche liquor company. It's not a particularly mainstream brand, so I'm surprised they were able to create such a big prize fund
  • No details on payout structure and what other places get edit: updated with a new poster that shows the structure
  • Top heavy payout of course, but still great by most standards. Runner up gets $220k, 8th place gets $22k, 128th place gets $1.5k
  • Super late notice for an international announcement - one week notice for a tournament with multi-million prize fund?

Coming late to the party, haven't read any comments as of yet, but does this make anybody here feel like travelling?? 😂

Ah, update: looks like this tournament was announced months ago, but the updated prize pool was only announced today.

Also, as per usual, the entry is only ~$150 USD and accommodations are provided. So the main financial cost is really just ponying up for the flight.
Travel Jones is itchin. 😉
They would write my strange behavior off as just being crazy American!! 😂

Wow, imagine the finals being Hill Hill. They would literally be playing a single game for over a Million Dollars, lol.

Can Americans travel to China on short notice? I always have to get a visa weeks beforehand. And i have to send my passport to a third-party company for a couple of weeks to get it.

Please excuse my ignorance but what is a "saver"?? I think I understand the purpose of a saver but how does it work?
It’s an agreement to split the money more equitably so the loser gets some protection. If the winner is supposed to get $100 and the loser $25, they might agree that the winner ends up with $75 and the loser $50. To outside appearances they are playing for the $75 difference, but in reality they are playing for $25.

You can expedite it if you have reason to, which could make it fast as a few days. When I played in a Joy event last year, they gave me an invitation letter that could be used for visa purposes.

China is going to start pulling in lots of non-Chinese players in Asia with these prize funds. Good for the players, but Predator and MR now have another big rival.
you actually think that touring pro 9b players are going to go to China on anything like a regular basis? Not happening. A few will cherry-pick the biggie events but that's about it.

for sure, and duya seems to suit players of american pool better than heyball, given the results i read about. but how long will it last? that liquor sponsor might pull out after one event

anyway i expect players from all cue sports to try their hand here, it seems a bit like the IPT in that regard, it will probably draw a lot

Why not. Just need a sponsor from one of these industries. A million dollars is pocket change for them:
  • Liquor
  • Tobacco
  • Weed
  • Sports Betting
  • Casinos
The "official" tournament purse would be $2 million from the sponsor: $1,5 mil for champion, rest chops $500k.

$1,000 entry if your Fargo is 800+, $750 for Fargo 750+, $500 for the rest.
3-day event starting Friday night, can be nonstop though Friday night and 24/7 Saturday, but needs to end on Sunday afternoon/evening (not 2AM Monday). Ticket starts at $100 for all 3 days. Tournament time needs to be focused and tailored to fit VIEWERS not player. Viewers will bring attentions and awareness and views and social media engagement, and eventually more sponsors $.

9-ball alternative break, standard table, no BS tight pockets shit, race to 9. Everyone has a chance.

Also allow an online Calcutta that EVERYONE can bid from everywhere. The side action and Calcutta would probably be another 2 millions

I don't know about touring pro 9b players, but Johann Chua, Dennis Orcullo, Jefrey De Luna, Jeffrey Ignacio, Kyle Amoroto, Baseth Mocaibat and ... Alex Pagulayan plan to attend the big Duya event. if those Filipinos go there, others will follow.

SFO/Beijing is about $1000 if you book early, or $1700 if you are tardy. It seems like it is possible to break even if you can win two matches. Of course, that doesn't pay the mortgage. For that, you need to finish in the top 32.

Ummm. The tournament is in China. Does the CCP also have a form 5754?
for those that dont know, you are the one that gives the form to whom you pay. the t.d. may have them as well if he allows it. this is for u.s. people. i dont know china tax laws and it doesnt matter to people from u.s. unless they hold some back. but if the t.d. cuts checks then it is easy.

if you give part of your winnings to an out of country person you need to have some proof of what you did. which isnt hard to do.
you need to do same as if you win a calcutta and give part away to an investor to cover yourself.

then you only owe on what you collected. not what was advertised.
it goes along the same lines as deducting expenses if it is your profession.
