Sofia Mast "retiring?" The state of American pool

I ment to post this a few days ago. Savannah is younger and better than Sofia. As proven in this weeks USA Cue Sports Championships. I think US Women's pool is in good hands. Also Jordan Helfrey is coming along as well. Among others.

I only saw them play one match in this event and Sofia blitzed her, badly.

I would generally say that Savannah plays stronger though.

Yea. They have had a great rivalry over the years. I have watched many of their matches. And recently Sav has gotten the better of Sofia. Can't touch this in the USA Nationals this week.

They're real close. I think Sofia has the slightest edge in historical match ups. But clearly Savannah played better in this past tournament, seems more dedicated (for now), and at almost two years younger probably has the higher ceiling.

It'll be interesting to see what decision Savannah makes in a couple years when it's her turn to choose her career path. She still needs to get quite a bit better to not need a real job.

I am kind of surprised they allow her to play in the juniors. The Juniors are not supposed to be for Pro's.

Really? How do you know that?
Savannah wears her emotions on her sleeve. Sofia doesn't show much emotion in either direction.

Sometimes i get the impression that Sofia doesn't enjoy competing but she is good at it, so she does. She doesnt look like she is having fun while playing. I think choosing a career and playing when she wants to is the way to go.

She is 16. I don't know what her income has to do with it. But anyway I disagree.
I think there are many reasons to define her as a professional:

Makes an income from professional tournaments
Travels extensively to professional tournaments
Partners with top professional men in doubles competition in professional events
Has sponsors
Leverages her popularity in the sport to develop other revenue streams (social media)

To say that she is not a professional would mean that she is an amateur.

I can't think of a single point to make to argue that she is an amateur.
In this sport, age is irrelevant.

Yes, Sofia looks non-chalant almost to the point of indifference or even apathy on some missed shots that would have Savannah visibly steaming.

Which one is a better attitude depends on perspective and interpretation.

A professional should be making their living at said profession. Sav is not. Her parents are supporting her.
If she worked ar McDonald's, would her job not be McDonald's associate?

She is doing her job: pool player. She makes money through sponsorships, endorsements, social media, and tournaments, alll directly tied to her play. Just like Fedor Gorst, SVB, and others.

They don't live with there parents at 16 years of age. Ridiculous comparison. I'm done with this. Carry on.
