Education please. What is a "Artist Proof" version, is this only with Jacoby or Predator also has "Artist Proof" versions with other cue makers?

An Artist Proof (AP) Predator Panthera is a very small pre-production or special-edition version of the cue that was not part of the regular numbered production run. These cues were typically made for review, photography, trade shows, sponsored players, or to be retained by the designer or Predator. They are much rarer than the standard Limited Edition cues.


For Predator Panthera cues, you’ll generally find three types:

• Standard production – Regular production cue with no special numbering.
• Limited Edition (LE) – Individually numbered (for example, 15/100).
• Artist Proof (AP) – Marked “AP” or “Artist Proof.” Some are numbered (e.g., AP 3/10), while others are simply marked “Artist Proof” or may not have a number at all. There are documented Panthera Artist Proof cues with no edition number.

From a collector’s standpoint:

• AP Pantheras are usually more desirable because they are produced in much smaller quantities.
• Assuming identical condition, an AP version can often command a premium over a standard production cue, although the exact premium depends on the specific Panthera model, originality, and current market demand.

Since I know you’re involved in high-end cue collecting, I’d also mention that Predator is one of the most frequently counterfeited cue brands. If you’re looking at an AP Panthera, I would verify:

• The engraving and AP markings.
• The serial number (if applicable).
• The original shaft and butt.
• Original paperwork, case, or certificate if it came with one.
• Provenance (original owner or dealer)
