Texas One Shot - the Game!

Try this out this weekend and tell me what you think:

Rack the 9 ball diamond sideways, 9 on the spot- 1 goes to the new head of the rack

Break from the box one diamond in and two diamonds down - no breaking from the rail. No soft breaks.

Game play - hit the lowest ball on the table- if the 9 goes in- you win!
if the 9 moves- you shoot again
if the 9 does not move- your turn is over

The game is all about the 9- if you make an object ball nobody cares. Make the 9 you win, move the 9 shoot again, that's it!

The 9 moves on the break by definition. Unless the breaker scratches they get the next shot, the 9 moved. Energy went through the 9 so it is deemed to have moved even if it still sits on the spot. This definition is used throughout the game so if the 2 ball rolls up and stops while touching the 9, energy went thru it and the 9 is deemed to have moved.

After striking the lowest ball on the table first, if any ball moves the 9- the player shoots again.
All scratches results in ball in hand, same as in 9ball.
Push out after the break is legal.
A ball must hit a rail after first contact with an object ball unless the 9 ball moves. This allows a player to legally putt the 9 ball around to create a better shot.

If the 9 ball is the lowest ball on the table, as long as the 9 moves, the player keeps shooting for the win. Be aware of this when getting down to the last object ball. If a player pots the last object ball and moves the 9 they are golden but if they fail to touch the 9 after the last object ball falls the incoming player is golden and is able to take as many shots a needed to win as long as they don't scratch.

We play challenger racks, break your own. The winner should be celebrating with their friends!

You've tried to generate some interest in this silly thing a couple of times now over the last couple of years, without any apparent interest.

That should prolly tell you somethin'...
You are correct in noting I have only pitch it a couple of times over a couple of years. I figure there are a few people on here all the time and a lot more people that just drop in occasionally so for their benefit I don't mind re-posting. I'm smart enough not to post all the time and just wear everyone out. I do see the game growing in popularity here in town and since I have played it I happen to know the game is actually fun. So, let's all have fun!

Only?

Over 25% of all your posts on the site for the last 3 years have been pitching this thing.

Credit where it's due, you don't give up. Even in the face of overwhelming indifference...

The game has a side hustle. I get to sell t-shirts. It's fun! If the game is no good at least the shirts are. My favorite is 'ReDefine Olympic Pool' with pool balls as Olympic Rings. New designs are coming out like Phat Rank Specialist and Bangers heart Phat Racks. Currently, you can get a Phat Rack Lover shirt and a 'featuring The Phat Rack'. Most people should start with one of the two 'I Suck at this Game' designs. A few may go with 'Austin's Weirdest Rack' but it is for a more local market.

But for me if the game is no good- the shirts don't matter. The shirts are just the truth said out loud. It's a game for Show-offs and Badasses. Showoffs move the 9 a lot, Badasses make it!

Race someone to 3 and the lights will turn on! All the wins are badass!

I prefer those big old dangerous horse shoes.
I always heard old dogs don't learn new tricks. I don't know if reason is won't or can't?
Well, your response is kinda of what I was inferring. I prefer to play this game as it’s intended to be played, I’m good at it.

You missed my point, I prefer pool, I prefer horseshoes, I prefer tennis. Those that can’t play horseshoes came up with cornhole, those that aren’t any good at tennis invented pickleball, those that can’t play pool invent dumbass versions of it like you have here, or they play on Tinker Toy 7’ boxes, you understand now?

People are always happy when they beat me and not too sad when they don't. I guess that says something. I just sold my 9' OlHausen to make room for a 9' National and an 8' 3c table by Frederick Ice Box Mfg. - both circa. 1900. As a barroom banger I did not do a lot of the beer buying. Strangely enough, my game has improved since I started playing Texas One Shot. It freed my mind from focusing on making balls which allowed me to see defense better. The game requires controlling 3 balls almost evert shot and hitting a single 2 1/4" target that moves aroung instead of one of six 4-5" targets coonveniently spaced. Plus its fun!

Yep, I was never a pro!

Given the last sentence, why don’t you get on your billiard table and learn the series games. I wish I had learned the free game and one cushion. Those games may not be popular but they’ve lasted. Your game won’t ever get going enough to say it stood the test of time. Sorry.

l've heard (not seen) it used as a 9 ball spot; weak player keeps shooting if they move the 9.
Is that stronger or weaker than "win if you make the 9 hit the bottom rail"?

I might choose this game if my only other choice was to stay in my prison cell, forced to dress as Cinderella, and then passed around the gang of eight as a succulent chew toy

Every VFW, American Legion, Elks, or whatever that I've ever been in had some weird little proprietary game that the locals played and loved.

I can't remember ever running into any of them outside of those individual locales...

I'm sure you have a lot of tough choices in prison, playing Texas One Shot might be one of the better ones.

I guess the dummie who could not hit 3 cushions came up with the bad idea of putting pockets on a table. How about the idiot who could not run a rack so he came up with 1pocket to embarrass his friends. Why do people keep writing new songs when the old ones are so good? They must be fools!

I really like the VFW, especially the one in Granbury, TX. They have some good players and even better people. Plus the drinks are cheap and the girls are pretty. Oh, and sometimes they play Texas One Shot!

I'll be happy for the game to land anywhere between Texas Hold'em and 1pocket in popularity. I live in a TicToc world but am from the era of newspapers. Strange days indeed! Maybe one day someone will come up with a game that makes you think and is fun, that's the ticket!

No, they’re not fools, but you appear to be. As they like to say in the south, bless your heart
