Does playing Pool with Families or Friends mess up your real game??

First you gotta get your mind right.
Being in a good place in life comes first.
When I quit a long term job, I follow my heart. As my first quit was at Novo Ply in Anderson CA My first adult job of 5 years. 3 months later it blew up. Killed 9 men and maimed another. Working in a bomb, as particle board manufacturer dust mixed wih air can be acetylene explosive.
My coworkers of 5 years and closest friends.

The whole reason I started playing again was because my daughter knew I used to play and wanted some pointers so she didn't embarrass herself at the bar/pool hall. I had not played for 20 years, she had never seen me with a cue.
Turns out, like in many things, she really does not want me to telling her what to do. Going back to a pool hall did reignite my obsession though.

The absolute Bad News Bears transition from not winning A game of football in 2 years.

My athletic training at USAFA got me college credits to a Master level title.

Soo oh. My fitness program includes a pool table and lasts an hour every morning. A luxury for a retired senior citizen

I made friends with the Vietnamese community pool players in Bellevue WA. They allowed me in their 1 and 2 ring game for over a year. I typically finished the night up 25ish. And paid for my beer. I wasn't hustling, just giving lessons as I honed my skills on the ride the money shots. My personal rule was never make more than 3 balls without riding the money.
They watched and learned. Well I learned too and improved my skills. When I was politely declined for entry to their game "what if I shoot left handed?" worked only once. it did get laughter after once though..
They took what they learned from me and played within the Asian community in Tacoma for much higher stakes. 10, 20 or 50 a game was a inter community common thing.

I had missed a simple shot......funny how our perspectives change as we improve in a skill, do you remember when all shots were hard? I'll bet you took that last shot for granted and couldn't believe you missed it, man, I hate that feeling.....
Well that "feeling" brings a bitter taste to the mouth.
My prescribed procedure is to sit with discipline and ponder while seated.
The Fact of the matter is universal. It has happened to everyone. Just not as often with the better players. So Yeah the simple stuff deserves the full attention to the process.
Rather than the Oh Sh*t flock, oh son of ah....

Pool has never been more than recreation, or maybe playing in a $5.00 Entry Fee Tournament. As I get older I feel lucky to be able to find someone to play with that likes One Pocket. I play to win, enjoy winning, but if I loose I lost nothing more then bragging rights.
Do not understand all the people who have to gamble, bet in action, as gambling has never been my thing. Use to play Football Cards during College & NFL season never won more then I lost, but it was fun to try, and predict winner for $1.00.
My neighbor landlord use to do the Santa Anita, Hollywood Park , and Vegas all the time. He said he never lost, but I question why he live in / managed apartments, and drove 8 year old Buick.
One day he & his wife had returned from Vegas after a big weekend of winning he said. I said Jack you are full of crap, there are two kings of gamblers, losers, liars, and no one ever win all the time.
BTW is the Horseshoe on Fremont still the Horseshoe, or because you killed the place are you new owner. Does the building say Jack’s Place?

5$ tournaments nightly was m m my after work pass time for a outlet of years In the 80s Seattle Tacoma Way oma environment. I subsidized my pay checks for a "few" years. Normally would be about half a weeks wage per week. Sure beat the other after work re reaction.

'Playing Pool with Family or Friends' is my real game. That is why I built a pool room and bought a table. I spend a lot more time, and have a lot more enjoyment doing that than I do playing in league or tournaments.
Does it affect my game? Probably not. When playing against weaker opponents, I attempt patterns and shots that I would likely not select in league or competition. That keeps the game interesting and keeps me sharp.
My morning fitness includes A cue stick.
Consider the stick fighting art. So even without a taable stick practice is available. Make the postures the foundation and the stroke mine. Using the camera to observe for later analysis.
Perfect the balance then posture then juggling.
Simple as that.

Precision is preferred to power at my age.
no wonder the old cs'ers play one pocket.

It's like alcoholism. An addiction for the people that "have to". My sales pitch included, "The money is a way to keep score." A quarter on the 9 is an easy start er on to the slippery slope of an interesting way to spend off work time.
Or a gambling affliction. Sometimes the adrenaline level gets elevated when playing for more than I have in my pocket. An exhilarating experience for sure, cue the Uneasy Rider exit.
