I felt like he tried on day 2. Got it within a game or two. But yeah he is known for pouting and such

Duong Quoc Hoang is his real name. Hoang is his first name.
Hoang Sao is his nickname. As explained to me by my Viet friend:
His nickname is Hoang Sao, sao is star in viet. He got it because he used to work at a poolhall called star club when he moved to Ho Chi Minh City. And over the years people noticed him for his skills and goofyness and they started to call him Hoang sao hoa, "sao hoa" is Mars in viet. And now they just call him the Martian.

Day 2 - ended 60/56 Duong leading
(Shaw closed the gap winning 38/30 on day)

(super close score of 30/28 on the day)
Then day 4 was night night 30/9.
One of the better ones we have seen in a while.
Pockets were like 3.9” w massive crowd.
The fans make Vietnam pool so beautiful.
They come out and support massively!
It was hot and condition were tough.
It made for more misses and more play.
Which as a fan, yah gotta love.
No one wants to see a run out fest on buckets.
The match had it all. Lead changes and drama.
Everytime match would get close, there would be complaining about chalk or soft breaking & other things.
This is all expected in a gambling match.
It’s rare you don’t see it so idk why anyone suprised.
Social media was buzzing.
Many sharing opinions that weren’t there and don’t understand what 2+2 equals.
Unfortunately after day 3, Shaw took to fb to clarify what is happening and his perception and thoughts by replying to some fans
Well many viewed him as disrespectful and rude etc. which I don’t think he was, there’s pressure and $ on the line. He took time to explain what’s going on and he wasn’t happy. No big deal.
Also, How cool is it that the players actually reply to the fans to help them understand their perception. What other sport can you interact on social media w the player so easily. Shaw does it and get demolished online.
If anyone watched the match, you can see the cue ball was dirty from Duongs chalk.
When your siting a ball to pot, it’s distracting and can cause skids. That’s why he would have ball cleaned often. Not end of world.
Both broke soft many times & Duong got lucky a ton of times. It’s frustrating being a player and watching luck happen. I bet a lot on Duong personally so I was loving watching the luck happen.
Duong also played good as heck at times. He earned his win and no one taking that away.
But your blind if you think cue ball wasn’t dirty, both players didn’t soft break at times and Duong didn’t get more rolls lol cause those are facts and that’s coming from a guy who was team Duong (me).
Well anyway , you always got a few idiots.
Vietnam has arguably the best fan base and it’s a beautiful place. But u always got bad apples everywhere in every country. Well a few of those apples decided to write Shaw’s family and threaten their lives etc.
Have you seen the Philadelphia eagles win a Super Bowl & destroy their own city & harm others in celebration. Yeah we got clowns in USA too. They everywhere.
Needless to say going into day 4, Shaw wasn’t in it mentally rightfully so. Def shouldn’t have been something he had to deal with. People don’t understand how to not take shit so serious.
You also have to remember that most players are mentally going to give up final day in a long race. But they signed up for the long race so they need to act accordingly. But you would be a fool to not expect a player to give up on final day when trailing by a lot. 95% of players would unless they are Chang or Fedor lol Shaw did have fun with the crowd with the last few racks and they loved it.
I love the fact that Duong played hard til last ball regardless of lead. That was cool. He didn’t freewheel, he gave each shot its respect which is respect to the fans for coming out.
None the less. It is what it is.
Congrats to Duong. Heck of a performance.
The drama shouldn’t take away from his talent and victory! Go celebrate!

I was stating what I think Shaw believed.
Whether Hoang’s breaks were “too soft” is inherently subjective.
In WNT events Shaw breaks harder than most and feels many players break too soft and don’t get warned. So Hoang’s “too soft” breaks were probably consistent with what is allowed by some referees on WNT. And it’s possible that Shaw’s response of his own soft breaks were actually softer than Hoang’s.
But I do think Jayson legitimately believed Hoang was breaking too soft and wasn’t getting warned. And of course if Jayson was winning he wouldn’t have probably cared.

i watch the last few racks, damn what a crowd eruption when hoang won. vietnam and philippines are by far the biggest pool countries in terms of fan engagement.
some nutter threatening shaw, that comes with the fan engagement unfortunately – 1 million views in 24 hours + the ones on site, and probably re-streamers as the vietnamese tend to have. some would have bet on the match. it comes with the territory. if pool grows and becomes even bigger there will be more such things, but also (much) more positive things.
with DQH i hope he takes his competitive game as serious as he can, because from what i've heard (and what looks to be true) he's made a lot of money from his stardom in vietnam.. there is a risk this makes a player less hungry, like ding junhui in snooker.
