I would say that most amatuers buy a custom cue because of ego. Professionals buy a custom cue because they can feel the difference in the hit of different cues. By the way, Marconi shot with a custom cue.

I have to agree with Bob. If the OB is close to the rail, it's not a hard shot at all. If the OB is a diamond off thhe rail, then it would require a very firm hit; in fact, I would imagine the CB would hop off the rail and bounce to tye OB, thus retaining the top-spin 8JIM9

Since the 70's Jimmy Reid has used a 56" cue. He claims it gives him more control. On his DVD, he explains how to find the corrret length cue for you. 8JIM9

I would say a carom is when the cue ball glances off one ball into another; a kiss shot is when an object ball glances off another ball and goes to a pocket or another ball. In other words, a carom shot deals with the cue balls path and a kiss shot deals with an object balls path. 8JIM9

I agree completely. After reading Jim Rydell's (The Owners Manual for the Complete Poolplayer), my win percentage went way up. He shows many situations where the "safety" isn't the obvious move, but it is the smartest move. 8JIM9
