Why buy a cue that is over $300?

I would say that most amatuers buy a custom cue because of ego. Professionals buy a custom cue because they can feel the difference in the hit of different cues. By the way, Marconi shot with a custom cue.

Top english change to draw after bounces of bottom rail

I have to agree with Bob. If the OB is close to the rail, it's not a hard shot at all. If the OB is a diamond off thhe rail, then it would require a very firm hit; in fact, I would imagine the CB would hop off the rail and bounce to tye OB, thus retaining the top-spin 8JIM9

    Private Lessons

By hitting a50 balls a night, you'll eventually gain a concept of aiming, but you're still not going to learn how to play pool. There are scores of books and dvd's out there, but they all have the same drawback; if you have a question about any of the material covered, you need to buy another...

    Tips of english or stroke?

Except on rare occasions, I don't use English to pocket balls. I do use a 1/2 tip of running English whenever possible to eliminate throw. However, I do use exact tips of English when kicking, because of what I've read in "The Owner's Manual for the Complete Poolplayer". He explains how as...

Kiss shots or carom shots explaind at billiebilliards.com?

I was taught; a carom is when the cue ball glances off one object ball, into another. A kiss shot is when an object ball glances off an object ball into another object ball or pocket. 8JIM9

Kiss shots or carom shots explaind at billiebilliards.com?

I would say a carom is when the cue ball glances off one ball into another; a kiss shot is when an object ball glances off another ball and goes to a pocket or another ball. In other words, a carom shot deals with the cue balls path and a kiss shot deals with an object balls path. 8JIM9

    Playing smarter

I agree completely. After reading Jim Rydell's (The Owners Manual for the Complete Poolplayer), my win percentage went way up. He shows many situations where the "safety" isn't the obvious move, but it is the smartest move. 8JIM9

    More elbow dropping nonsense

The elbow-drop indicates a piston stroke, while a static elbow indicates a pendulum stroke. It seems that most pro 9-ball players use a piston stroke, because they need to move the cueball more. Straight-pool players seem to use a pendulum stroke, probably to limit cueball movement. Just...
