A picture is still worth a thousand words. After seeing the pictures you posted, it's apparent that the install was poorly done. Putting a new carbon fiber pad back on the ferrule is not a big deal though, any decent cue mechanic can get you back up to speed.

You said that 'We' decided to remove the piece that you now know was a boilerplate. Sorry sir, but it sounds like you granted permission at that point. Granted the cue tech should have been more knowledgeable, but you told him to proceed with the removal and repair.
If you are going to make cored cues, there is no good substitute for a good gun drill. I have several sizes depending on what I'm looking to accomplish with the core.
A drive center in the chuck and a live center in the tailstock is generally the way it's done. The offset amount is not as big as you envision, so no mach Jesus.
You could try heating the ring with a heat gun to soften the super glue bond enough to remove and re-seat the ring. But be careful and do it in a very well ventilated space as this can gas out cyanide gas from the glue. If that doesn't work the ring needs to be cut off and replaced. Simple task...
Nope, I wasn't referring to you as a stoner at all. Just a reference to my original posting on this thread being a month before 4/20.
I guess comedy is not for me.
I'll see myself to the door.
