SJM Sizes Up the Matchroom 2021 US Open

I don’t think there is any doubt snooker fans followed how Judd got on. There are always “extreme” opinions, but let’s just say the more realistic view was that he would loose when he came up a top ranked player, which is exactly what happened. After he went out I still followed the...

    US Open 9-ball updates thread..

That was a good game, it could have gone either way but I think Judd had reached level. Well played to Theron he held his nerve and played solid…only question for me now is who I’m I going support?

    US OPEN coverage

Quite right, and I am that Snooker fan watching and cheering on Judd, I wouldn’t say I was hooked on pool but it must be doing something otherwise why am I spending time on this forum? I don‘t for one moment expect Judd to win, it’s just about how deep he can go, and although the nature of the...

    My impression of Judd Trump

Judd Trump earned over £1.2 (about $1.7) million last year, he isn’t playing because he needs the money. He does not work for Matchroom, the prize money on offer is not “big”, and he is not obligated to turn up. He obviously is getting some incentive from Matchroom, and is treating it as a...

Judd Trump to play U.S. Open.................

As an experiment in promotion, Judd appearance has clearly been a massive hit. I’m sure there are plenty of UK Pool fans who love the game, but even the World Championship was very much under the radar. Matchroom know what they are doing, having Judd involved has created lots of buzz. Now...

Judd Trump to play U.S. Open.................

It was English 8-ball or at least one version of the rules. Nothing like what I see in 9 or 10 ball. It’s the problem with pool in Britain, you can go to any pub and it will have different rules.

Judd Trump to play U.S. Open.................

He was a well loved Snooker player, I remember him well. One of the fastest player I’ve ever watched. I didn’t realise he had such success in pool, (quick glance at Wikipedia) if anything he had more title wins although not so much money.

Things That Make You Go Hmm !

One of the greatest days in snooker history two 33 frame matches finish 17-16 fantastic! Only possible because of the format.

Judd Trump to play U.S. Open.................

As much as I’m keen to see Judd do well, at the end of the day (I think we all know) it’s a marketing move. Matchroom are great at building interest, and this has certainly worked. People like me, Snooker fans suddenly now have a interest in seeing how he does. And I guess Pool fans are just...

Things That Make You Go Hmm !

For me this isn’t even a debate! The World Championship, is the most loved, most watched and the most followed event on the calendar. It’s format makes it the ultimate test of concentration, skill and mental fortitude in snooker. Additionally the longer format gives matches time time ebb and...

Judd Trump to play U.S. Open.................

I’m really keen to see how well Judd does at 9 ball. It’s a very different game to Snooker but he is probably the best potter and creative shot maker on the tour, skills that should translate well into pool. In a way he can’t loose, as he is new to the game, any progress he makes is a plus...

Break Stats -- 2021 World Pool Championship (9-Ball), June 2021

Deep down who doesn’t love some good stats! This last WC was the first 9-ball tournament I have ever watched. And my gut feeling was the matches were to short. Statistically that would seem fair as longer as matches decrease the effects of winning the lag. However I think my judgment is...

Break Stats -- 2021 World Pool Championship (9-Ball), June 2021

Thanks for the info, don’t bother digging through your notes. Seems fairly simple, the shorter the game the more the getting to break first matters. But as games get longer, it becomes less significant.
