granite?
why not granite? you could get 1 piece cut with cutouts for the pockets and holes for the rail and attachment. It's much harder than slate and doesn't bend as much.

this one has 3 piece slate. the rails are dead so I'm going to put on new rails and cloth. The first time I saw it was in the 70's. It's a solid table that's for sure.
If anybody has any idea what kind of table this is please tell me. It's an 8 foot pro size table. it's all heavy wood and glued crossmembers under the slate. The slate is 1". I know it's at least 40 years old. There is a stenciled name " E STINSON" on one end of the lower frame. Thanks in advance.
