    Calcutta Payout

In regards to the OP, I think it was greedy of the player to expect more than his half of the calcutta prize, especially if it happened to be a good chunk of change and he was just a local or even regional player with little or no travel expenses. It was even lower of him to complain about it on...

    Nine ball rack

I don't see how anyone can use a 9 ball rack. Every time I have gotten a good rack with one I accidentally disturb the balls while removing the rack. It's much easier to use the full rack. Plus like someone else said it is much easier to force the balls together.

8 ball racking habits and don't use the 1 ball!

Has anyone ran into players who refused to break unless the rack was exactly how they wanted? I have heard of some APA league players insisting that the 1 ball always goes in the front but I guess it is due to the way they grew up playing. In the APA league I played in, we always racked for each...

how are ya'll doing in league ?

Update on how APA 9-ball team league has been going for me recently. This session I have won 10 of 11 matches as a SL8. All of my opponents, except for one SL7 who I have played and beaten twice and lost to once, have been SL5's or below. I have been playing much more consistent than when I was...

Has pool ever got you laid?

I've met most of my former girlfriends through playing pool. One particular memory stands out. I went on vacation to Daytona Beach for one week with two guys I used to shoot APA doubles with and one of their wives and there just so happened to be a bar with two 8' tables directly across the...

Woodward Not at TS, but I found him

Good idea but I think it is wishful thinking. Amazon is a business and would only be interested in pool streaming if the return on investment was high but the return is low. It would be cool though if Amazon made a series about pool with high quality production values similar to The Grand Tour...

how are ya'll doing in league ?

My girlfriend and I quit playing APA before our son was born in November 2015 and 6 weeks ago, we got back on the same team we last played on. We play on a Thursday night 8-man 9-ball team and I am rated an 8. I played the last half of the previous session and had a 50% win ratio. Last night was...

The Shot Heard 'round The City - Meeker

I have missed many easy shots before and I felt like crawling in a hole and dying. One of the weirdest and most surprising moments I have ever seen which involved a "gimme" shot happened in scotch doubles league play several years ago. One of players, who was an APA 4 or 5, on the opposing...

    regarding the apa racking thread

Anyone expecting league players to spend an eternity giving a perfect rack is living in a fantasy world. Sometimes it is impossible to get a perfect rack with all of the balls touching on the equipment I play on. Some bars do not spend the time to clean their equipment and the money to purchase...

Do you have to play for Cash?

You don't have to play for money to enjoy the game. I have heard that some top pros, mainly Europeans, strictly play tournaments and do not gamble, at least publicly. I like gambling for small stakes occasionally to add a little incentive to perform and make a little money but I am not...
