How to Master Stop, Follow, and Draw Skills … THE MOST USEFUL DRILL IN POOL

Looking at the freeze-frame at the start and your stance: how tall are you, and how long is your cue? Also, I find higher tables more comfortable to play on. Have you tried different table heights? I easily notice a difference of even 1 inch in height. ("Official" or standard range is 29.25"-31".)

    "Best" 1x1 EXTRA LONG CASE

I bought one of these last year. There is indeed 32" of room, bottom to top, as measured by me with a tape measure. Pocket is 15" long, unusual for 1x1 cases, but only 2 3/4" wide, so most cell phones won't fit. I seem to recall the 1x2 has a wider pocket, and costs maybe $10 more.

New pool training app just launched

I downloaded the app and got started today. I was surprised and impressed by how polished it is. The only thing I can't figure out so far is that the guidance says you can "pause" and resume at any time. I see no way to ask the app to pause. I'll take the suggestion above to follow up after a...

    Jump RODS

For some reason I thought a legal jump cue had to weigh 8 oz.

    Are Fargo Ratings inflating?

There's no reason FR can't work as well for 1p as for the other games. You have a point that there may be a weaker relationship between a 1p rating and the other games. My guess is 8 and 9 ball are so common that most active players play enough of both that there is not that much difference in...

    Are Fargo Ratings inflating?

This is the basic issue, for at least a few here. We can read the history and evolution of Elo-type rating systems (especially as applied to chess), and wonder what choices FargoRate uses, and why those choices were made. Without access to the algorithms and data, it's hard to learn anything...

    Are Fargo Ratings inflating?

Since Fargo is a relative rating, a rating based on play against others, what is the difference? Isn't dominance against opponents = better?

    Are Fargo Ratings inflating?

If I understand what you say you expect, it is that on average, people who take a year or two off will, the following year, continue play at the level they stopped playing - 0 games played in 2 years is expected to leave rating unchanged. That seems an odd expectation to me. Most things that...

Any billiards companies interested in working with us? - Dartmouth Billiards Student Organization

My son was on the billiards team at North Texas. They had a faculty sponsor and traveled around Texas to compete. Do you have a faculty member organizing and supporting your efforts?

    Hard tip recs

Tiger Dynamite tips are the hard layered tips that I use. Not quite as hard as a break tip, but harder than Everest and other medium tips. I have them on playing and on break shafts and like them. Price varies, I paid $22 for 2 (and $22 for 2 more...). I got 13mm, they come in 14mm too.

Should All Skill Levels Have an Equal Chance to Win a Weekly 9-Ball Handicapped Tournament?

Maybe people enjoy it most when they are matched against roughly equal competition. Maybe somewhat better, but not five times better (or worse). You could organize a tournament along these lines if you roughly group the players, say in FR terms groups of 100 to 125 FR.

Stroke - which muscles to use, which joints should move

Playing around with the grip some, it seems that gripping the cue with forefinger and thumb only ("OK sign" grip) does allow the wrist to move more freely. It seems to also provide for less forced wrist movement, when during the backstroke the cue is pulling down on the pinky, and a strong full...

Stroke - which muscles to use, which joints should move

Simple seems most repeatable to me, so simple is what I want to work toward. I just spent some time trying shots and paying attention, and I agree that if you start bent over with the grip hand hanging down, the elbow need not move until firmer shots, where it naturally wants to follow the cue a...

Stroke - which muscles to use, which joints should move

I agree. Given that you can rotate the hand and move it in circles, it seems like one way to have a simple, repeatable stroke is to limit wrist movement to as little as possible. I think in practice there must be some ulnar/radial deviation, especially on follow through.

Should All Skill Levels Have an Equal Chance to Win a Weekly 9-Ball Handicapped Tournament?

If you want to redistribute the winning percentages, you can do so with what you have in place, for everyone except the worst (current 6/2) players. For the next tournament, make up the matchups exactly as you have been doing. Then change all the 5/2s to 6/2s. Change all the 4/2s to 5/2s...
