At what would you question “non obvious” call pocketing?

You seem a little frustrated, and I'm not sure why. BCA 4.2 is telling you WHEN to call a non-obvious shot. If it is a bank or combination you should call the ball and the pocket. You do not have to say "bank" or "combo." You simply indicate the ball and the intended pocket. If I am banking...

    SVB v. Fedor Gorst

Random observation... At 21-21 the odds to win were Fedor (54%), SVB (46%). I'm surprised that there was an 8% gap, given their Fargo rates are only 4 points apart; 850-846. If you asked me to guess what the % difference in chance-to-win, in what would be a race to 29, I would have thought 4...

At what would you question “non obvious” call pocketing?

The definition that you shared can literally be reduced to: Call the ball Call the Pocket Make a legal hit Whether it gets there by bank, combo, kiss, carom, etc., is IRRELEVANT. fuggles is correct. It does not matter how the called ball gets to the called pocket, assuming a legal hit.

Sofia Mast "retiring?" The state of American pool

I think there are many reasons to define her as a professional: Makes an income from professional tournaments Travels extensively to professional tournaments Partners with top professional men in doubles competition in professional events Has sponsors Leverages her popularity in the sport to...

At what would you question “non obvious” call pocketing?

I assume at this point that others, and this rule, have answered your question? On non-obvious shots the call would be ball and pocket, then the cue ball must hit one of their balls first (a fair stroke must be made). The words combo, bank, carom, kiss, etc., never need to be spoken.

Sofia Mast "retiring?" The state of American pool

I only saw them play one match in this event and Sofia blitzed her, badly. I would generally say that Savannah plays stronger though.

    opponent matters

I try to get to my chair and sit down, every time. The only time I don't is when the other guy jumps up and gets into the shot so fast that crossing to my chair would require walking across his line or around behind him. Then I just step backward and stand very still. I have a hard time...

Are Junior players being set up for a tough life?

I just watched Colston lose a Junior National Championship (16 and under) in Nine Ball to Hayden Ernst. Colston led 6-5 (race to seven) and blew the winning nine ball. Here is the lone comment on the match, which is about professionalism: Colston, you play great pool. There is no doubt about...

    SVB v. Fedor Gorst

Yeah, honestly, I reject this whole idea that they won't play their best or "harderst" without their personal money on the line. Even if an appearance fee reduces the amount they are really playing for, they are at least playing for enough to pay a car payment and car insurance for one year. I...

Do you ever get the feeling that the Fargo Rate of a player just does not seem right?

Interesting. Can't you use the posted Fargo rates of players and the match results from any (or many) large participation events (Vegas events, for example) and run the data without their assistance?

I watched a live stream of an 800 Fargo rate player, competing in a $20 weekly tournament, recently.

Yeah, we have a great lineup of pros that come to Classic Billiards in Lauderhill, FL and they will play people for hours on end, but it isn't a true race. People pay something like $50 for the opportunity to play them (call it a fee) for one or a few games. I have many friends that talk about...

    SVB v. Fedor Gorst

Yeah, I'm intrigued by the idea that they should be preparing for the Mosconi cup and not "playing an exhibition." If, separate from this thread, someone asked me to name the single biggest exhibition event in pool today, without hesitation I would say, "The Mosconi Cup." As for whether there...

in what order would you rank these players, based on their 9 ball game only?

I can't pick any pair of them and think that it would be any more than a 55% chance of the stronger/predicted player winning, if we are talking about them in their prime. Paired up today, Ralf, for example, might have less than a 45% chance in a longer race against the stronger players, but...
