    Gamble or Not

@whiteoak Many would say you need to incorporate some level of wagering to help achieve the highest level. But there are plenty of players that play only tournaments or friendly games and get plenty good at the sport. Gambling isn't a necessity, it just tends to run with the territory alot...

Which Way To Play This Shot?

On a full size table, most accomplished players probably play the 2 in the side. On a smaller barbox table, its a much closer decision and corner-and-corner likely the more attractive option.

    First Cue Decision $150-$250

For your needs, there's nothing in the $250 range that you can't accomplish in the $125-$175 range. No need to fit a special LD shaft to your stick, the money spent on it won't matter enough and could be better applied elsewhere (a 2nd starter stick for example). Any basic Schmelke, McDermott...

I'm torn on which jump cue

The Jacoby 3-pc jumpers are high-performing at all types of jump shots, and perform with more ease than alot of other jumpers. Well made, look nice, decent price point.

Places to Dine at and close to SBE?

PJ Whelihan's (Blue Bell, PA) - Good food and open late (live music, eyecandy) https://www.pjspub.com/about.php?loc=Blue_Bell King of Prussia area nearby has damn near everything, but here's some quality spots not yet on the list: Maggiano's (highly recommended for sitdown Italian)...

    About those Chinese 8-ball tables

How do those pockets play? Are they snooker-tight or a little easier? Table 9'??

Learning about myself and the game

There's some good stuff in this one. Motivations and goals are very important. You can be good and happy, be the best but miserable, rich and miserable (or happy) or poor and happy (or miserable). It's all over the map. I guess the important takeaway is that a person's behavior should be...

    Maybe Europe is just better?

The population of Europe is over double the United States. So all things being equal, wouldn't we expect them to be better? Bigger pie to pull players from. Plus they tend to play more difficult games there. Not sure "more difficult" is the right wording, but you get the idea.

What tip for making a Gilbert J&B cue into a player?

Yeah I love the cue. Just want to make it more "player-friendly" without reducing the break / jump qualities too severely.

Can pool players benefit by crossing-over to 3-cushion billiards?

Definitely gives you insight into some creative kick shots & high-spin shots in 9-ball. I never played alot of 3-cushion, but played and read just enough that it influenced a few of my 9-ball shots over the years.

What tip for making a Gilbert J&B cue into a player?

Just got a new Andy Gilbert J&B cue with the intent of using as a player predominantly and J&B second (carry one cue only on my lazy days). The stock tip (gator?) is probably perfect for its intended purpose, but awfully hard to try to play with. Curious who has used these sticks as players...

    Ugh to Virtual Pool 4...

Yeah I used to use Vpool to help teach. The physics are pretty darn good. I wonder if it would run on a tablet?

    Ugh to Virtual Pool 4...

Awh come on, you just wish you had the stroke that you do on VP4 :-) I know I did back when it was VP3.

    Jump Que

I'd put Jacobys in the top 2 or 3. I bought their 3-piece extended model based on similar inquiry and opinions of the forum, and it did not disappoint. The length is good for longer jumps requiring accuracy. And when breaking it down using a dart style stroke, I can get over a whole ball...
