Besides loss of control… sure,the rack shifts back upon the hit so too much power would shift if back further than optimal before the balls can scatter for the break patters we know that work.
on original factory cushions that are in good condition they all play like GC’s….older ones with new cushions w/o subrail mods play short and hop or pinch if the mechanic wasn’t very careful

I superimpose the shaft over the cb and the center of the shaft or one of its edges will be in line with my ob...
Yes I’ve done this for ohhh closing in on 20 years. I air pivot from the stand up and have my eyes locked into the shafts line there al the way down dropping into setting at the position at the cb (English or not)
the most deviance ill show is nose left or right of the shaft for some cuts...
