If you get too aggressive with the surface, the problem I see is potentially compromising the wall thickness of the shaft. Many of these CF shafts are ~1mm wall thickness to begin with...give or take.

I don't know if I would "sand" the shafts. I would probably just hit them with a good alcohol wipe, and then Ghost/Gorst shaft slicker. Seems to work fine with mine. Good luck. I'm interested in your outcomes. You might try a VERY light session with something like this, if you have a cheap...

The pieces were sold some time ago.

I've used the Gorst Ghost cleaner on my purple-heart break shaft, and buffed it religiously afterward with a microfiber cloth. Not something I do often, but it hasn't caused a problem...yet. 👍

There are regions where this wood is highly prized. I semi regret selling the pieces that I had. 🤷
