if you are new to Austin and look for places to go, I would too recommend to check out "yelp". They have many restaurants, shops, shopping centers, and what ever is testable tested by people who went ot these places and commented on those...
also they always have current events (concerts, etc,) on their site...

you also find a few coments to the local pool halls (partly by me lol)
I would say I envy you to live in that great place, if there was a different climatic situation (humidity, heat)...
