14.1 High run record on a 5X10 tsble

I just found this thread in AzBilliards after a long absence from the site and I thought I'd add some information: Babe Cranfield grew up on the 5x10 early on in his pocket biliards career. He had high runs of 435, 423, and 320........all unofficial of course :)

    Some 14.1 Strategies (Wildhair)

Hi Kevin The book you mentioned is The Straight Pool Bible by Babe Cranfield, not by Capelle. And you're right, this is a must have book for 14.1 players.

An excellent tribute to Babe Cranfield!!!

This is for anyone in this forum (especially straight pool players) who would like to know more about the history of one of the true grand masters of straight pool, Babe Cranfield, told by one of his closest friends and student, Larry Moy (co-author of the Straight Pool Bible). The article is in...

    Cue Wobble?

I just recently bought three new cues just to see which one I would like best. I bought them on recomendations from this forum. I asked everyone what cue was the best bang for the buck. I ended up buying a Dufferin, a Lucasi, and a Joss. The first two were about $100 each and the Joss was around...

Who is the greatest straight pool player alive?

Hi Earl. I wish you had asked this before last Holloween and the answer would have been easy for me. Babe Cranfield would have been my choice because of his knowledge, style of play, and his many high runs. 40+ runs of 400+ including a 768. As far as today my guess would be Efren, especially if...

    Is Straight Pool Officially Dead?

Bud Green: "Is Straight Pool Officially Dead"? I sure hope not. 3 out of the 4 billiard parlors here in Syracuse, NY have straight pool leagues. I know most of the members love the game, and many of them are normaly 9-ball players. The love of 14.1 in central NY may somewhat be due to the fact...

    Joss Finale Question

Muxy: I just went to the Turning Stone web site, and under information it said that under 18s can not be on the gaming floor. The tournament is in a seperate room so I would assume that you could attend. Go to the Turning Stone site and check it out for yourself. Click on information or send...

How many 300s have you seen in straight pool?

    Straight Pool High Run

I was there too. And as loose as those tables were, nobody ran out. Robles had the high run of 148. Some of the best players in the world were there and still no run outs. 14.1 is still a tough game even though the conditions (equipment) are easier. I would definitly like to see the tables for...

    Straight Pool High Run

Hi poolshark52: I used to watch Babe all the time. I've never seen anyone play 14.1 as well as he did. He ran a 768 at the Holliday Billiards in Syracuse. Do you know anyone that may have witnessed this? I don't doubt it because as I've said, I've watched him play. Many people have told me they...

    Pool Self-Help Books, Suggestion Needed....

Three excellent books, and why. 1. The BCA rule book: This is the "Hoyle" of billiard games. It's difficult to play any game if you don't know the rules! 2. Byrne's standard book of pool and billiards: This is a great, overall book that will explain (in laymans terms), why billiard balls do...

    Best Shaft Cleaner ?

Shaft cleaner: Muxy: For regular cleaning I take a paper towel and fold it three times. Then I fold it the long way to make a crease. Then I dampen (not sopping wet) the inside of the crease and put some Comet cleanser in it. I fold it along the crease, and rub a little bit untill the...

    the human sardo

I don't know Jack White, but Babe Cranfield used to rack them by hand very often. I don't think he was showing off, he just didn't want to bother grabbing the rack.
