I always heard of a local that racked 9ball with his bare hands. Up until last night I never noticed him doing it amazing how quickly he could do it. I thought people may have issues but watched him lose a few grand (racking for opponent) one set his opponent sank at least 4 nines off the break (race to 9) has anyone else seen somebody rack this way, another weird one is the guy that can take the balls from the side pockets while standing at the head rail.

Mark Tadd (that guy that the board Nazi's ran off) racks them with his hands and gets them about as good as you could get them using a rack. I think that grabbing the balls from the side pockets while standing at the head rail would just require a person to be tall as opposed to having any sort of talent. I'm not tall, and I have no talent, so I guess that rules out the possibility that I'll ever be able to do that! :D

I have a friend that can grab the balls from the side holes from the end of the table. He is 6 foot 5. It is quite funny to see. I was watching this video of him playing one night and all of the sudden he grabbed a ball from the side while racking. I laughed as it happened. Then one day he also did it when we were playing. It is funny to see happen.

I didnt say either required any talent, I think to rack bare handed you also need fairly large hands. He keeps a finger on each ball and squeezes them together for a nice tight rack. The guy who can grb the balls must be 6'5" at least, not sure if he can pull it off on a 9 footer.

I have watched Jack White perform his exhibition several times back in the 70's. One of the things that he would do is form all 15 balls in a triangle at the foot of the table. He would then give them a push and catch them when the front ball reached the spot, all the balls still being in a triangle. It happened quick and the balls were tight. I gave up trying to duplicate it after months of trying. Anyone else see him do this?

I can spot a ball with only one hand.

Not that this has much to do with the thread, but Cliff Thorburn has a cool trick. He puts one ball on top of another, and holds it there with a pair of cue sticks held together (in the grove between the cue shafts). Then he rolls the two balls together on the table, up and down the grove. He calls it 'walking the balls' or something like that. Said he used to practice this when bored in hotel rooms ... from my perspective it is darn near impossible. I can't imagine 'throwing' a 15 ball rack from one end of the table to the other either.

I don't know Jack White, but Babe Cranfield used to rack them by hand very often. I don't think he was showing off, he just didn't want to bother grabbing the rack.

I used to rack the balls with my bare hands all the time for 9b. I would take 4 balls and put them on the bottom rail with the one being on the right end. You take the rest of the balls and put them against the 4 balls with the 9 in the middle. Push all the balls to the spot and take the 1 and put it in the front the ball on the left back goes directly in the back. I take my right hand and push in the front of the rack and my left hand pushes in from the back. I hold the wing balls in with my fingers and thumbs. I think I can get them as tight or tighter than any rack. I only do this when I'm practicing because it's just faster for me than grabbing the rack.

well don't they just about run off anybody who has knowledge to share for fear that the person kust might know a little more than them. Or the 1 I like that they do is they have a thread going and player 1 has not even typed a word into that thread, and yet they drag player 1's faults or whatever into the thread and bash them and just about chase them off this board also. I don't think that the moderator should allow this since he is not paying them to be answering questions on this board and they are doing it for the LOVE of the game. We all know who i am talking about. And they know who they are......mike
