Good question. I have been told that it's unprofessional, interfering with natural roll of the cue ball. What if it wasn't going to drop, and you just grabbed it. Many players have a problem with that rule.

At the 14.1 league at Amsterdam Billiards in NYC, grabbing the cue ball in the pocket when you're about to scratch, is a 15 point penalty.

Hello, I have recently started breaking with my playing cue, I seem to have better control and make more balls on the break. The cue has an OB-1 shaft on it. I was just curious if anyone else has tried that. I wouldn't want to damage the shaft in any way. Thanks for any input.:)
