I got to know Bobby a little after he married a sparring partner of mine - even visited his shop out in Alsip (southwest of Chicago). Great guy with a pretty techy CNC setup and a good design eye. Even plays a respectable game of one pocket (on the table in his shop).

I'd try maybe a dab of alcohol or household cleaner first.
But I kinda like the slightly used authenticity as is, so I wouldn't risk trying at all.

That sounds right - the taper I recall hearing about was close to conical, but "customized" a little. Good reviews.
I was actually at Ray's shop once back in his day, but that was as much as I knew him. He was a celebrity in Chicago pool circles (a competitive field for cuemakers).

Here in Chicago a friend has opened three pool rooms (a fourth on the way). He closed the first one even though it was profitable because it was rented space - bought the next three properties and started making better money.

Most aiming systems define a few easily-visualized alignments that the shooter uses as "landmarks" close to the actual needed shot alignments, so the adjustments by feel are relatively small. CTE is one of the more complicated versions of that.
