Man killed after fight at Magoos in Tulsa

Heh heh, that Slick's over in GP is where I spend most of my time. It's not so bad lately. New manager's got it pretty much cleaned up. He started up a weekly 1P tournament, too. A year ago, you wouldn't find me anywhere near that place, though...:D

Is This Acceptable Condition for a Custom Cue at $195?

I posted this elsewhere, but this cue was 150 bucks. It's flawless as far as I can tell. Not very fancy, but it's proof that you can get a decent cue without breaking the bank. No matter how cheap, I wouldn't accept a cue with dings in the finish and poor fitting parts. Just my .02. :)

What would you PAY extra for at your local pool hall?

I like the sound of silence. And I don't mean Simon and Garfunkel... :D Maybe a track with 5 minutes of people playing pool. That would be ok, too. :p

What would you PAY extra for at your local pool hall?

Getting some good smoke-eaters would be nice, and I think 5 minutes of quiet on the jukebox would be GREAT. I'd go broke shutting that thing up. :D Around here (Houston), I've noticed a trend of cranking the hell outta the jukebox after 6:00 or 7:00. During the day it's tolerable, but good...

    "Cue Spinners"

Y'know, now that you mention that, I spin it a lot while I'm walking around the table looking at a shot, too.... Glad to see I'm not the only one. :D

    "Cue Spinners"

I do it, but I'm chalking it up to OCD. :D Don't know why or when I started doing it, but it's there. Doesn't seem to hurt my game any, though.

New cue for the little lady...

Here are some more pics. The color's still not quite right in the pics, but you get the idea. I screwed with the contrast quite a bit to show how the grain lines up from the butt to the shaft, so the color on that one is WAY off.

New cue for the little lady...

Well, right now, "the place" is Slick Willie's on Federal Road. :D Lots of 8' GC's with cheapy cloth and 2 9' GC's with 860 on 'em. Pricing is 3 bucks/hr before 6 and 6/hr after 6. If you get on a table with one of the "regulars", it's free. That's kind of the home pool hall for me, but there's...

New cue for the little lady...

Let me see if I can address everything for you guys. First, the price is kind of a special deal 'cause I've helped him out on a couple things. That's kind of his basic SP-type cue with a wrap on it. I just requested the PH instead of rosewood. I think it would add a few bucks to it normally...

New cue for the little lady...

Got this from Danny Spates here in Houston for 150 bucks. Nice and simple, purpleheart short-splice points in a plain maple forearm, white/black linen wrap, purpleheart butt sleeve. The points all line up within 1/16" and the growth rings are in line from the butt to the shaft, a nice little...

    Talisman Tips OB 1 questions

I've been using a Sniper on mine and it's much better IMO than the Talisman that came on it. I also had trouble with the Talisman delaminating when shaping it to a dime radius. It would lose the top layer and leave a little flat spot. Sniper doesn't do this, but I think the layers are thinner on...

    Cue Value Question

LOL, ain't that the truth... One of these days, maybe Danny's name will be out there in a big way and he can actually charge a little more for his expertise, instead of just basing it on actual material cost. In the meantime, I'm gonna buy up a bunch of his cues while they're cheap! ;) :D...

    Cue Value Question

I'm not really sure what they're made of, but here's a closeup of them.

    Cue Value Question

Nope, Danny Spates, not Roger. I would say that in the world of cuemaking, he's fairly unknown, but he does GREAT work for way too little money IMO. He's making two cues for me right now. I'll post some pics of those when they get finished. I just wanted to see what you guys thought it was...

    Cue Value Question

What value would you place on this cue based on the materials used? It's made by a cuemaker in Houston. Everything white is ivory and the wrap is stacked leather. I was told the wood is blood wood. Construction is top notch, no visible flaws anywhere. Just curious about this.
