I was able to handle this cue in person at the Western BCA tourney that is currently going on in Oregon. That is a mighty nice cue.

Steve Linglebach brought one or two to the western BCA tourney here in Lincoln City Oregon that is going on now. I think his shop is called bigglebach cues. He has a real pretty purple heart wrapless here.

Schmelke made blank in USA and finished in Japan. The three digit number stamped by the joint is a dead giveaway.

It was obviously refinished, which may or may not have been to remove the logo. Why they chose to make a Ramin wood shaft, no one will know.

I can’t imagine why anyone would use a construction bolt that doesn’t have a way to tighten it. Even the K-Mart specials Ive come across over the years have a way to remove them.

I wish my cue had that weight bolt. Honestly that weight bolt is closer to a certain era JW bolts than mine. I see similarities too, but I also see differences. The shaft is 13.5mm with an ivory ferrule and different railroad tracks.

Curious, and I don’t know who made the cue, but at what point does a cue become a frankencue? Does any cue with a replaced buttcap become a frankencue cue, or does it become a frankencue when the buttcap, the weight bolt and the rubber bumper get replaced?

I appreciate the pic. Would you show the pilots and the pin? Is that a higher end Mizerack cue from the 80’s? I’m sure we have both seen enough cues to understand subtle differences between a custom cue and a production cue.

Upon further inspection, there is another JWW on the other side of the buttcap. Pretty shoddy repair work.

It’s a construction bolt as the butt cap fell right off when I was able to unscrew it.

I’m pretty sure the logo/buttcap is from a repair. It has definitely been refinished. Whatever it is, it hits great, feels more refined than my old palmers, closer to an old Dale Patten and early an Schon I had years ago.

Not the greatest pic, but you can see the wood for a compression fit around the pilot, though it just looks like a dark ring. I just went through and checked my other cues with 5/16x18 pins and non have flat crest, they all have a sharp crest. Also, which surprised me, is the shaft is...

I know you have a very long history with cues and this forum and I respect your insight, though can you point me to a production cue that uses black linen phenolic? I haven’t followed cues as much as I use to, and to be fair, I haven’t paid attention to production cues that are made after 93.
