I can’t imagine why anyone would use a construction bolt that doesn’t have a way to tighten it. Even the K-Mart specials Ive come across over the years have a way to remove them.

I wish my cue had that weight bolt. Honestly that weight bolt is closer to a certain era JW bolts than mine. I see similarities too, but I also see differences. The shaft is 13.5mm with an ivory ferrule and different railroad tracks.

Curious, and I don’t know who made the cue, but at what point does a cue become a frankencue? Does any cue with a replaced buttcap become a frankencue cue, or does it become a frankencue when the buttcap, the weight bolt and the rubber bumper get replaced?

I appreciate the pic. Would you show the pilots and the pin? Is that a higher end Mizerack cue from the 80’s? I’m sure we have both seen enough cues to understand subtle differences between a custom cue and a production cue.

Upon further inspection, there is another JWW on the other side of the buttcap. Pretty shoddy repair work.

I’m pretty sure the logo/buttcap is from a repair. It has definitely been refinished. Whatever it is, it hits great, feels more refined than my old palmers, closer to an old Dale Patten and early an Schon I had years ago.

I know you have a very long history with cues and this forum and I respect your insight, though can you point me to a production cue that uses black linen phenolic? I haven’t followed cues as much as I use to, and to be fair, I haven’t paid attention to production cues that are made after 93.

I agree too. I was doing more research and it looks like African olive wood.

I haven’t really been on the forum much for a number of years and if I recall correctly, some of the old guard died or left and the new folks are not as informed.

I’m fully aware the logo is not like any joss or JW logo.

I’m sure the buttcap has been replaced in its lifetime. I would imagine BITD average folks would have a local repair it vs shipping to the maker.

That’s what I am leaning towards. So far I have only found one 68-72 Joss that has the same pin and joint collar. Most of the them have rectangles in the joint collar where this one has squares, so it could be from that time frame too, though I would think the repair guy would have attempted...
